Das Boot - TV-Serie (Das Original) [Blu-ray] [1981]

It is the original broadcast atmospheric & beautifully acted. Some rudimentary German is needed to find the English Sub Titles which I sadly need.

I set subtitles to German to help me understand what is being said.But what puzzles me is why lieutenant (German 'Leutnant') appears as 'Lieutenant' in the German subtitles.Did the German Navy, in the 1940s, use the spelling 'Lieutenant'? In Das Boot the crew are clearly pronouncing the word as Leutnant.Very strange ...

One of my all time favourites, I have the director's cut on Blu-ray this is the full 6 episodes in full!

Unlike the director cut of the film this contains a fuller story and more character development and is probably the definitive version of a classic WWII story.

Need a passing knowledge of German (or Google Translate to hand) to get through the menus to find the subtitles then settle down and watch the story, told from the sharp end of the war. Only bought this because I lost DVD No 2 of the set I purchased some time ago....grrrr

I haven't even opened the package yet. I remember watching this on tv some years ago and really enjoyed it then.Thank you.

I'm prefer the director's cut cinema version. This series is a bit lengthy and doesn't offer many unseen scenes to fans like me.

This is a brilliant film that properly portrays life in a submarine in World War 2. It doesn’t pull any punches and is the most true to life film with no Hollywood glosses.
