Great Book But Ordered New and Got USED Copy
I love this book so much that I ordered a copy for a gift. It’s a funny, sweet view of life in Provence from a dog’s point of view. HOWEVER, the copy I received is USED. Someone’s name is written on the front cover.PLEASE correct your description if you are selling returned books as new.

This is my 5th time purchasing this book! It's one of the funniest books I've EVER read! I keep a couple of copies handy so I always have something to give for a housewarming or Christmas gift. Would definitely recommend!

Charming!!
I adore this book and immediately upon finishing reading, I ordered another copy for a friend.Told from the dog’s point of view, this book is not only laugh out loud funny, it is utterly charming. The language is typical Peter Mayle, which is thoroughly witty and poignant.I can’t recommend this story high enough!

A World Gone to the Dog
This is a charming tale of life in Provence as seen through the eyes of Peter Mayle's dog, one of Provence's best-known former residents. It is a witty view of life from three-feet off the ground, with the dog sharing his ups and downs, positve and negative encounters, lovelife, and general world view!Readers of Peter Mayle's work will find this a worthwhile addition to their personal libraries. There is one problem, though, with the text: The typeface is too small. even with reading glasses, I had to find the right light and even reread some sections. It makes little sense to issue a small-sized book, too, when Mayle has countless worldwide readers who enjoy his books. The normal text size can only increase that audience, especially with his unfortunate and widely lamented recent death.

Very funny, but ...
It is a funny life story from a dog's point of view. Overall I like it. One thing I would complain is that too much French; plus, I feel like you need to have an English major or at least had high score in verbal part of GRE test to thoroughly understand everything in the book. Unfortunately, I had neither. English is my second language and I had difficult time understanding some parts, even with a dictionary in hand.

Fun to Read for Any Dog Lover
This rating is based on what this book is -- not as compared to all books written over the course of history. It's a quirky, tongue-in-cheek little book about daily life from a dog's point of view. Having read a number of Mayle's books with varying degrees of enthusiasm for each, this one is refreshing and different. Mayle also pokes fun at the dog owners as well. The book dragged a bit in places but also had some truly laugh-out-loud segments. It a word, it was "delightful"!Recommended for all dog lovers with a solid sense of humor.

The same sense of humor I would expect from this author.
Peter Mayle is one of my favorite authors. He has a dry sense of humor that I love. "Chicken, that happy combination of nourishment and sport", said the dog.

Le petit pot boiler?
Laugh ... I never thought I'd start.I enjoy and often re-read the Provence books but this is not up to PM's standard and the illustrations are irritating. Unoriginal and bitty in both cases. As for the joke about the drinker with the writing problem, that is the property of the late great Brendan Behan.I remember 'Boy' from 'Toujours Provence' and looked forward to reading a book by him, but was dogged by disappointment.

I love this book
I love this book. I first bought it in Finnish, but then also wanted to read it in English. I've read the chicken episode about ten times, because it's so crazy! I laughed so much that I almost dropped down from my sofa. The dog, Boy, is exactly like my dachshund, who thinks he is the greatest thing on four legs since Ginger Roberts and Fred Astaire - I can only count my blessings for rescuing him from the five-star kennel where he was born. :) I have read all Peter Mayles' travelogues, too. Bought them hard-cover, which was a wise choice because my dogs took a sudden liking to reading about life in France; probably smelling the frying chicken... Well, they are as intelligent as Boy: if they were to choose between Proust and McDonalds, I'm pretty sure which way they would turn. They like eating much more than reading. They hate bathing, but rolling in mud is really something enjoyable. So, I know what Peter Mayle is talking about: he has captured

Peter Mayle
That poor dog - but what a wonderfuly inciteful critter - I am passing it on to a dog-loving friend of mine - she never married and all her children have been dogs. However, I don't think this book matches up to Peter Mayle's 'Year in Provence' series. He's doing well getting by on his well-known name I think.

Fantastic book - would recommend it for any dog owner ...
Fantastic book - would recommend it for any dog owner because Peter Mayles' observations are absolutely spot-on!!! I love all of his books anyway but this one really ticks all the boxes for entertainment, humour, life in France and owning a dog. Absolutely brilliant!
