Great fluid
This came highly recommended as a replacement for the OE MTF in my FL5 Civic Type R. After driving around for a few weeks I can say the shift quality improved - especially shifting to/from 2nd. Cold-start shifting is also improved somewhat. Overall I am satisfied. The FL5 CTR takes a little over 2.3 qts.

From clunk-o-matic to smooth as glass shifting
Used it for my 2011 Mazda 2. What a difference. Shifts so smooth. I don't know if it's the quality of this stuff or I was just long overdue to change my trans oil, but it really feels nice. I decided to go with this product despite being more expensive because of the reviews and reputation. Figure might as well use the best since the change interval is quite long and better products typically have a longer use life which would further extend the change interval. I'm sure anything would have been an improvement but to be the extra cost seems worth it.

I wish I'd had this years ago.
I've owned my 02 Acura RSX Type S since new in August 2001. It is still the best and most fun car I've ever owned in my 50 years of driving. The only complaint I've ever had was shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. The speed of the car, whether sedate or aggressive didn't seem to matter. The ratio jump between 1st and 2nd gears is substantial and it was always clunky, sometimes grinding. Down shifting was never an issue from 3rd to 2nd. In the last few years I've tried several things to improve the shifting. I started with a short throw shift lever from B&M which seemed to help, but in reality caused the shift cable end to bend, because of the design of the lever. What had helped was the removal of the rubber bushings that mounted the shifter housing to the floor of the car, the B&M kit included aluminum bushings to replace the originals. Mounting the housing solid took out unnecessary movement and wasted motion. This past February I swapped out the entire shifter mechanism for a billet aluminum unit that definitely improved things along with new shifter cables from the same source, K-tuned. This past Tuesday, I drained the Honda manual transmission fluid for the Red Line MTL. Almost immediately the shifting is smoother with no clunky 1--2 shifts. The car has 92,000+ miles on it. The trans oil has been replaced according to the manufacturer's outline, so this last change was 30,000 miles early. I really wish I'd known about Red Line MTL ten years ago. This stuff really works. Update: August 31. Since replacing the Honda manual transmission fluid with the Red Line MTL, I've been to Michigan and back and Wisconsin and back to St. Louis. I did normal maintenance on my car last weekend. Checked the transmission fluid and it was as clean as the day I installed it and shifting is smooth, almost effortless.

Noticeable difference, not just placebo (Honda Prelude SH)
After reading many reviews of this product I decided to take a chance. I've used Royal Purple and Red Line in other vehicles in the past with great success, but Honda is pretty firm about using only their MTF. Some reviews here on Amazon say the Red Line helps, others say it's not as good as the Honda MTF. For those with older Hondas I'm here to say that this fluid makes a noticeable difference in my 2001 Prelude. I just changed the fluid 6 months ago so it had fresh Honda MTF in it. But I wanted to see if this would improve it and I'm happy to say it did. The shift lever comes in and out of gear more easily and smoothly and makes it even more of a joy to shift. I've driven in early morning in 40 degree after the car sat in the cold all night. Like with the Honda MTF or really any fluid, it's a bit stiffer when cold but smooths out once the car warms up. To sum up, this product makes a noticeable difference in my 2001 Honda. Subtle, but noticeable, definitely worth the money.

Great stuff!!
I have been using Red Line MTL products for the last 10+ years in all of my vehicles. Previously I owned a 1992 Sentra SE-R which I purchased off a little old lady with less than 60k miles. After reading rave reviews about Redline MTL products on various message boards, I put it in my SE-R. Shifting was vastly improved especially on cold mornings. No more difficulty getting the vehicle in to reverse and silky smooth shifts to boot. I put over 100k HARD miles on this car before selling it and the transmission was just as smooth at 160k as it was at 60k. As a side note...Sentra SE-R transmissions were notorious for 5th gear pop-out. I never had to deal with this issue. I recently purchased a 98 Civic Hatchback with 150k miles as a daily beater. The transmission was somewhat notchy with a SLIGHT grind when shifting from 2nd-3rd gear. I put in this product and after 100 or so miles the grinding was gone and I experienced significant improvement in smoothness. It feels like a brand new transmission; not one with 150k+ miles. This stuff is worth every penny.

Cheaper than XT-M5-QS
Pros: - Price per quart is significantly cheaper than Motorcraft XT-M5-QS - Good quality fluid that shifts smoothly once up to operating temperature Cons: - Cold lubrication is not all that good. Gears feel “crunchy” and hard to shift when fluid is still cold, not at all comparable to the performance of the Motorcraft equivalent in cold conditions Overall, good value for the few times you need to change your transmission fluid. Shifts well and keeps the transmission nice and quiet. Cold lubrication still leaves a lot on the table but is still much better than other cheap brands of gear oil that often do not shift well even at operating temperature. This particular fluid helped with my “crunchy” 6th gear shift in my NC Miata even though it can be hard to shift when still cold. Worth the price, though I will probably give the Motorcraft fluid a try next time to see if it’s worth the extravagant price.
