The Manual request for the ES8 a 20 Amp breaker and 12GA wire. The wattage however is 1440 with 12 Amps. Why then 20 Amp breaker and not 15 ??

Our Current rv water heater is 1440 watts and using a "dedicated" 15 amp breaker. Our NEW 2018 Keystone was wired from the factory this way. The current Hot water heater takes 2 hours to heat the 12 gallons on electric and has never popped in over 5 years of full time usage. 15 amps at 120volts is a circuit capable of 1800 watts and the WIRE is always 15% MORE CAPABLE than the breaker else you could start a fire before breaker pops. You WILL be able to use a 15 amp breaker if "dedicated" if it is a "shared BRANCH circuit" you will continually pop that breaker whenever you are using other things on the branch. ALL of these models have PLUGS on them except the 7 usgl unit which is hard wired. So they RECOMMEND a 20 amp breaker "branch circuit" for ADDING the models with plugs on them as YOU WILL BE ADDING a 12 amp load to that EXISTING circuit already running with other stuff on it that you are using everyday.....get it? DO NOT SWAP IN A NEW higher BREAKER on an existing branch circuit. IF you do not have an existing 15 amp "DEDICATED CIRCUIT" already, then you can run a NEW 20 AMP DEDICATED circuit. IF you DO have a current DEDICATED 15 AMP circuit, YOU CAN use it as it is capable of 1800 watts and this unit will run a hour maximum to reheat water tank.
