Great movie.

This is the 3rd film of Edward Zwick I have seen, his other two films, Blood Diamond & Defiance were both good and The Siege shows the skill Edward has both in screen writing and behind a camera.When Middle East terrorists kill 25 hostages after blowing up a bus. FBI special agent, Anthony Hubbard is hell bent on finding those responsible for this horrible crime. While searching for more terrorist members and their leader, Anthony bumps into CIA agent, Elise Kraft, who aids in Anthony pursuit but feels she is holding something out on him.However things go from bad to worse when the terrorists hold a classroom full of children hostage. While Anthony is able to take down the terrorist before he came arm the bomb, they respond by driving a van loaded with explosives into the One Federal Plaza, where a FBI office is at which kills over 600 people including friends of Anthony and his partner Frank Haddad. The President orders marital law in New York with 101 Airborne Division, commanded by William Devereaux which he orders all Middle East men arrested, including Frank's son.Tension is boiling with violent protests, army patrols on the streets with everyone else trapped in their homes and Anthony is being watched by General Devereaux who is also torturing and killing innocent people to find the terrorist cell. Disgusted with Devereaux's actions, Elise confesses to Anthony she use to train terrorist members how to make bombs and wants to bring this war to a end. What follows is a very intense and race against time before the next terrorist attack happens.Very solid and well written film with great actors like Denzel Washington & Bruce Willis. Now the only thing I wish was The Siege had more to offer with the terrorists pulling off more deadly attacks then a few bombings here and their. Overall it was still a fun film to watch.

Good: Amazing, prophetic story; trailer for Broken ArrowBad: Uh... Bonus features, where are you?One in November, I was feeling the need to re-watch this movie again. The reason I bought it on Blu-Ray was because I could not stream it on Netflix. However, when I looked, there were reviews, some were consistent with what I thought about it when I first watched it, others accused it of being racist. I did not remember it being racist, which intrigued me, and as I had bought a new laptop with a Blu-ray player, the choice seemed obvious.The movie was better than I remembered it. It is a maze of deception and betrayal, with FBI Special Agent Anthony 'Hub' Hubbard (played by Denzel Washington) trying to root out the terrorist threat. Every character who is integral to the plot has some deep pathos, from Annette Benning's many-faced CIA agent to Agent Frank Hadad, Hubbard's Muslim-American partner, to the two villains of the story. The problem is, to respond to the accusations of racism, I would have to spoil this movie's ending, and in the end something as "definite" as racism is actually extremely hard to define. Just remember what my room mate (who watched the movie with me) said: "Just because there's racist people in it doesn't make it racist."While I have no problems with the movie itself, one of the major selling points of Blu-Ray bonus features. I don't think there are any on this disk, except some previews. While the Broken Arrow trailer nearly made up for it (John Travolta hamming it up always brings a smile to my face) I would have loved some commentary or a behind the scenes video. With the prevalance of up-sampling technology in today's devices, you have to ask yourself, "Is it worth the extra money to get the Blu-Ray?"

After seeing this movie again for about the 20th time, I finally decided to write a review. This movie is in my top 20 list of post-apocalyptic films (because I've also planned for a solar generator post-apocalypse :-). I love good suspense/mystery-thrillers if the plot is intelligent and the actors are great. I'd say this movie fits strongly in that last category.Since this movie was released almost 20 years ago, the other reason I'm writing the review is that hopefully, it catches the attention of people aged mid-teens to 30, who may have missed it first run. Those individuals who didn't even hit 18 before they had to contemplate a terrorist attack from a different culture, country - and in three places (counting the field in PA and Washington, DC) - have grown up in a country where they have had terrorism hung over their heads like Damocles' sword.This movie addresses that exact issue, presents a comparable scenario to 9/11, and shows the danger of isolating one group of people, profiling, waiving constitutional rights in the name of "keeping the US safe"...and how it falls to a few people to save us from degenerating into a police (military) state.Sadly, much of what the movie warned about has come to pass. In fact, only one thing hasn't yet- martial law; in its replacement, we have constitutional rights broken with being monitored ala 1984. The monitoring, however, extends to *every* citizen, while profiling continuous to be limited to citizens of Middle Eastern origin.The ongoing problems with the Middle East and the multiple US concerns about involvement, terrorism and security measures that have occurred in the 17 years after the release show this film's almost eerie prescience. The major actors in this film - Denzel Washington, Annette Benning, Tony Shalhoub, and Bruce Willis - are perfect in their roles.

Efectívamente, "The Siege" (conocida aquí en España como "Estado de Sitio") contiene pista de audio en CASTELLANO 5.1 DTS, aparte de en Alemán e Italiano; y como no, en Inglés 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Sabiendo que esta película no está editada en España en formato Blu-Ray, ya solo por eso esta edición UK merece las 5 estrellas. Como extras contiene 4 reportajes y 2 trailers de la película. La funda o caja de la película es gruesa: exáctamente ocupa el doble que la normal.Premonitorio e inquietante film de 1998 que contiene en su guión abrumadoras similitudes y perturbadores paralelismos con sucesos reales acaecidos tanto durante como después del 11-S. Parecería menos paradójico si no estuviésemos hablando de una película estrenada 3 años antes de aquellos sucesos. Por lo tanto, este visionario a la par que profético film se ha convertido por méritos propios en una de las críticas más certeras y corrosivas contra las políticas de Bush tras aquel fatídico día.Esta película tiene diversas lecturas según se va profundizando en ella:-Las consecuencias originadas en el pasado (adiestramiento y financiación de insurgentes por parte de EEUU, y a los cuáles se les deja de apoyar por un cambio de régimen político) que tienen su eco en el futuro (debido a esa falta de apoyo, los masacran, y el odio de los supervivientes hacia el pais que sienten que les traicionó da lugar al nacimiento de células terroristas que se vuelven contra los EEUU).-El peligro inherente al hecho de ser americano y pertenecer a la comunidad árabe cuando terroristas árabes amenazan la seguridad americana.-La crisis progresiva y sistemática de un gobierno como detonante de la ley marcial.-La ruptura de coordinación entre organismos (FBI, CIA, ejército).-Etc, etc...Pero al márgen de estas lecturas, esta película es ante todo un thriller entretenido y competente en el que contemplas cómo un pais va sufriendo una oleada de atentados mientras el FBI y la CIA intentan dar caza a sus distintas células terroristas antes de que el presidente invoque la ley de poderes bélicos, la cual otorgaría al ejército el control absoluto, y por consiguiente el poder de declarar la ley marcial. ¡Máxima tensión asegurada!-Denzel Washington: «¿Se han vuelto todos locos, pero de qué están hablando?»-Bruce Willis: «Llegó el momento de que un hombre sufra para salvar centenares de vidas»-Denzel Washington: «Un hombre... ¿por qué no dos, por qué no séis? Podemos ejecutarlos en público,¿eh? Vamos, general, han caído hombres suyos y hombres míos, pero no puede hacer esto. ¿Y si lo que en realidad quieren es vernos afinar a críos en estadios tal como lo hacemos, y poner soldados en las calles y que los americanos se miren con recelo? La edición de “Estado de Sitio” de Reino Unido (UK) en Blu-ray tiene los mismos extras que la edición definitiva 2 discos que salió hace unos años en DVD en España. La calidad de imagen es estupenda y los extras son buenos y están subtitulados al castellano. Esta película nunca se ha editado en Blu-ray en España, pero esta edición incluye el doblaje en castellano.

El idioma es 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio en inglés, en Castellano 5.1 DTS, al igual que italiano y alemán. Comentarios de los extras 2.0. Los subtitulos vienen en castellano, danés, alemán, italiano y algunos más. La pelicula dura 116 min. Buena pelicula interpretada por grandes actores como Denzel Washington, Annette Benning y Bruce Willis, ambientada sobre tema de células terroristas y servicios de inteligencia, vamos que no te deja indiferente y te da un ejemplo de lo que puede llegar y que ha llegado en algunos casos. Que cada uno se haga su propia opinion de la pelicula en su modo de reflejar el terrorismo y sus posibles consecuencias y como hombres y mujeres se involucran en intentar solucionar conflictos. Pelicula recomndable si uno quiere entender ciertas cosas.

Zu den exzellenten Darstellern und dem sehr gut gedrehten Film braucht man eigentlich nichts mehr zu sagen. Ich habe ihn eher zufällig im Abend-TV gesehen und mir postwenden gekauft. Beklemmend und schockierend zugleich ist das Ausufern des Terrorismus, das drei Jahre nach dm Abdrehen des Films in 9/11 finsterste Realität wurde. Ebenso die Unfähigkeit, die Hintergründe wirklich zu analysieren. Und das Foltern von Gefangenen unabhängig von jeder Unschuldsvermutung, das wenigstens im Film zum Verhaften und Absetzen des zuständigen US-Befehlshabers führt. Kaum zu fassen, was sich in Guantanamo und anderswo abspielte, obwohl es diesen Film schon gab. Offenbar sind selbst die besten demokratischen Instanzen nur sehr schleppend lernfähig. Den Film sollte wirklich jeder, der heute noch an 9/11 und den Folgen leidet (also buchstäblich jeder) gesehen haben.

Der Film ist zwar hier und da fiktion aber, ERSCHRECKEND gut gemacht. Es passieren Dinge im Film, die Jahre später dann ja woanders passierten. Einmarschieren der US Army, Menschen die in Gefangenenlager kommen usw. Ja, so viel Fiktion ist es dann doch wieder nicht. Es ist wie eine gruselige vor Vorahnung. Einfach mal anschauen, und selber urteilen. Mehr kann man nicht sagen.
