BeaverCraft Wood Carving Kit for Beginners Comfort Bird DIY Whittling Set

Very very very sharp knife. Its for beginners but a child or kid should absolutely be used supervised with that knife. One slip is all its taken to cut open 3 family members on the hand. Its a great set. I would buy agian.

Amazing introduction into basic wood working. The first softer wood thy provided I did completely using the resources they provided. It took me a few weeks of working on it on and off. However, then when the second harder wood time came around I utilized a cheap sanding belt to cut it down to the template and it took my less than a day of working. Much faster. Also to make the wood pop more, I would highly recommend getting some tung oil to run it down. You should be able to see the difference in visible grain ;)

The practice wood was super easy and nice to carve for the majority of the block. I seemed to get a knot or something, though, as one section was markedly harder to carve than the rest. The rest of the kit is nice and straightforward though. I sharped the knife more than the instructions called for as I was struggling a bit with that one portion of wood. My bird is a little ugly but it was fun

This was my first attempt at hand carving. The kit includes absolutely everything you need. The knife is good quality, stays sharp. It even includes a practice block of wood. I skipped the practice block and went right to the cherry and still had great results. Made this for my wife as a gift. She loved it!

I made the 2 that comes with it and I wanted to more, so I copied outlines on the bird and I had more that I needed, and I bought some exotic wood! And very pleased with the purchase!

I was really excited to start this, but the knife I received is extremely dull. It wouldn't cut paper or the hair on my arm upon opening the package. The kit I received too was already slightly open, so I am wondering if I got a returned kit. There should also be a warning that glue is required, but not included as I was missing that element when I wanted to begin. I'm a little disappointed with the quality of the wood as well, as the cuts on my wood were not very clean. Along with the guides being too long for the comfort bird.

Kit came as described. I liked that it had 2 different types of wood. One is definitely easier to cut. Spray the other with alcohol and water mixture to soften the wood. Spray often is what I've been told to do from various whittling groups. Used the finger tape, as the knife was just a bit too big for my small 65-year-old hands. Cuts happen. It's part of whittling but can be reduced with gloves and tape together. Happy it came with beeswax and sandpaper. Nothing else you need to buy, except maybe gloves. My bird doesn't look exactly as it is pictured, but every piece will be unique, as no two people whittle the same. Overall, instructions were good and gives a person a try to see if they like to whittle.

This was a fun project, I completed both birds over a week, only working a couple of hours a night. You could definitely speed that up by using a saw to help remove some of the wood. I accidentally started with the cherry wood included in the kit, it was fairly hard to cut into and I needed to strop the knife every half hour or so to keep the edge on it. However, the basswood block cut much easier. It took about half the time that the cherry did to carve into a passable bird shape. The included booklet only included simple steps on how to work on the bird and the video of it wasn't that much better. Serviceable, but I would recommend some tutorials on youtube to supplement the process. The knife included in the kit isn't top of the line, but it's still a great knife. The blade is not too thick, razor-sharp, and has a comfortable handle. The wood is good quality, mine had no blemishes at all in it. All in all, this is a great way to get started with wood carving. If you're interested in giving it a try, pick this kit up.

This kit is brilliant! I bought it for my boyfriend and I to do together as there are two blocks of wood (a bit of healthy competition, haha!). All equipment was present with a great instruction book and access to online video tutorials. It is such a smart product, really unique and the perfect thing to have a go at during lockdown. We were both very impressed, thank you!
