QUESTIONS Sensitive and idealistic fifteen-year-old Kelly McAllisterfeels at odds with everyone around her. Her best friendhas suddenly turned boy crazy. Her talented mothercreates greeting card designs instead of real art, andher father never talks to her about anything exceptworking hard and getting ahead. That's why Kelly becomes so involved in the plight of ahomeless Vietnam vet who takes refuge in the libraryeach day. Interviewing him began as a Social Studiesproject, but it takes on new meaning after her offers offood and friendship backfire into a real disaster. What had the war done to destroy this man? And whathad it done to her own father, who had been to thesame war ... and refuses to speak of it? Review: Great read. - Such a touching book. Great read. Review: great book! - The book December Stillness is a wonderful book! I had to read this for school and I read it in three days total. I loved it soo much. It is inspiring. Its about a girl named Kelly McAllister, who has a lot of questions about pretty much everything. She has to do a Social Studies project on something that is a current issue in the world and first ends up writing about how God doesn't exist and then her teacher makes her write about something that she can prove and something that is more realistic. So she ends up writing about homeless people and there's a homeless person who goes to the local library and she tries to interview him but he refuses to speak to her. You have to read more about the book because its a great book.

December Stillness
I thought this book was a wonderful story of a girl-Kelly-who, through some investigating of a vietnam vetran, found that there are reasons that people are having trouble groing on with their lives after the war. It had a good plot to it, and, though predictable in a way, kept you interested in what would happend. Also, it was a very emotional book, because when Kelley finally begins to understand why Mr. Weems-the vietnam vetran of their town- is the way he is, she begins to understand her dad and find why he is the way he is. She did not know how effecting the war was on men who went. I thought it was a wonderful book, and though i've read it i would read it again any time.

typical libriel
This book was a great. It taught me so much about Vietnam and how we shouldn't of went in. By the way I'm being sarcastic. This book was sick. Once again its about how America was evil for going into Vietnam. And the dope smokin acid dropping hippies were the greatest. Its about this libriel no nothing girl named Kelly who decides to do a report on the homeless. And of course she lives in the suburbs. There is this one homeless guy who always hangs out at the library. He always has this big trash bags hes alway lugging around. Gee I wonder whats in them. You guessed it he was in Vietnam. So Kelly's always wearing these ripped clothes. Which i think is way more ignorant, because she can afford clothes but chooses not to be grateful for what she has. Its not like she gives her money away to organizations. No. She wants her supposedly sell out dad to do that. As libriels always do wont give away there own money but make other people give there money away. So kelly's mom and dad used to be hippis. Now the dads a successful lawyer i know so evil. But Kelly has no problem giving away the food the dad bought. So the point of this book is conservatives are evil and libriels are god you know if they believed in god. So if you liked this book your probably a Clinton lover atheist who loves killing babys gay marriage rights and think child molesters aren't that bad

Oh Please!
I had to read this book for a school assignment. The assignments were fantastic helping me get into something deeply and understand something far better than I ever had. But the book choice was not very good. If you're reading this, then you probably know what the story is about, girl needs to write paper on homeless and befriends Hobo. There's ONE surprise that I could totally see a mile away. Shallow and predictable, poor word choice and unrealistic characters. I found this book to be one of my least favorites. Except for every book i ever had to read by Betsy Byars. But besides these two authors, I love reading. I love reading meaningful haert wrenching books that ACTUALLY touck me, like "Flowers for Algernon" or "Walk Two Moons". This book was mediocre at best. I give it three stars because I feel that there is something to be said about how everything ties in a little bit at the end and Kelly is friends with her father. But I'm going to stick with "Lord of the Flies" and "Holes" Thank you very much.

Stinky Stillness
I think December Stillness was way too sad and horrible. It also did not teach me a lesson, give me many emotions, or surprise me. None of the above- if it did do those things to me it would have been a great book. There was no point of it and i would never want to read another book like it! There was hardly a theme to it either.

December Stillness
I really enjoy reading Mary Downing Hahn's books. This book gives a good introduction for teen readers to understand just a little bit from different points of view from war veterans. But I'll admit the book did move a little slower than her other books. But other than that, it was another good read with a surprising ending and touching chapters that made you keep reading.
