Does this add to the number of players that can play cause I know rebellion is for 3 to 6 players

No. This expansion only adds new roles, but because there are only 3 cards for each new role you can only play up to 6 players. However, you can always use more than 5 roles if you want to play with more than 6 players. This changes the balance of the game but is possible.

Can this be played with my original Coup deck or do I need Rebellion?

The short answer is you need rebellion.The card size and design is different than the original coup so if you played with both decks , people could easily tell you were falsely bluffing about the expansion cards or the orginal cards.
