Have you ever wondered why you are drawn to certain people, ideas, or products and turned off by others? Are you constantly searching for something you can’t put your finger on, or wondering whether you are living a life that truly fits? In Archetypes: Who Are You? , New York Times best-selling author Caroline Myss delves into the world of archetypes, which have been the subject of her work for more than 25 years. Archetypes are universal patterns of behavior that, once discovered, help you better understand yourself and your place in the world. In short, knowing your archetypes can transform your life. Within the pages of this book, Myss writes about ten primary feminine archetypes that have emerged in today’s society: the Caregiver, the Artist/Creative, the Fashionista, the Intellectual, the Rebel, the Queen/Executive, the Advocate, the Visionary, the Athlete, and the Spiritual Seeker. In each chapter, she explains one individual archetype, showing how it has evolved and then in fascinating detail lays out the unique characteristics, the defining graces, the life challenges, and other information to help you understand if you are part of this archetype family and if so, how you can fully tap into its power. She also offers tips and practical advice on how to fully engage with your archetypes. Learning which archetypes best describe you is just the beginning. You can then use this knowledge to make more conscious decisions about everything from careers to relationships, avoiding common pitfalls of your personality type while playing up your strengths. The result is a happier, more authentic you. It’s never too late to change your life by embracing your archetypes to the fullest. So are you a Rebel? An Artist? A Visionary? Join us . . . and find yourself. Review: Superb Learning about the Self! - I just read this amazing book by Caroline Myss, called Archetypes. These are collective symbols that everyone in the culture understands; patterns, habits, and behaviors that people can all describe. When we speak in archetypes, we speak in common terms. For example, if I were to say my uncle's sister's daughter's son's mom is such a martyr, you would immediately get an accurate picture of what I mean by her personality. If I told you my brother's grandma's daughter's son-in-law's wife is an amazing mother, you would also understand what it is I am trying to say. Did you catch that both of these people link back to me? No family members were harmed in the making of these examples. Hmmm...is that a Caretaker tendency...?!? Identifying archetypes is helpful for understanding yourself and others. When I can step back and look at a situation, myself, or another person through the lens of archetypes, I am able to see the impersonal patterns of consciousness that connect us all. When I encounter a person who is a Drama Queen, for example, I can keep my own energy and not lose myself in theirs. And I no longer resent either the person or myself for the situation! Yaay! Archetypes help clarify our human interconnectedness as "the universal language of the human soul," as Caroline puts it. This book is like a workbook, helping the reader to identify some of their primary archetypes. It is organized into ten parent categories that reflect today's common expressions. These archetype families group similar expressions, making it easier to start identifying. As an example, the Creative family includes the Artist, Creative, Performer, Storyteller, etc. At this point I don't necessarily need to define my nuances of a specific archetype (Author? Artist? Storyteller? Scribe?), it is enough to begin with the parent category (Creative!). I found this book to be highly inspiring! If you would like to know more about archetypes in depth, take a look at the same author's book Sacred Contracts, or visit her website salon for more information. Spiritual Seekers who have already read and experienced her previous work will still greatly enjoy Archetypes, it has great nuances. One more important and fun aspect of this book: there is a companion website that is an archetypal community for everyone! Go to [...], read The Concept and How Our Site Works for better descriptions than I do justice here. Take the identifying quiz, then enjoy content created for and tailored to archetypes. Have fun, see you there! Hay House, Pioneer Spriritual Visionary, gave me this book in exchange for my honest Detective, Intellectual, Seeker, Spiritual, Nurturer, Teacher, Mother opinion of it. My Goddess, Warrior, Creative, and Writer truly Advocate(s) this book! Review: An interesting and highly informative book for anyone who is seeking to find out who they are. - Like many people I am a voracious reader with interests in a wide variety of topics from Abacus to Zymurgy. I purchase the vast majority of my books on desertcart because they have not only an enormous selection but the most reasonable prices as well. I recently purchased this fantastic 247 page hardcover book (Archetypes: Who are you? By Caroline Myss) for a bargain price on desertcart). I found this book so interesting that I could not put it down and finished it in one sitting. Even though I always knew that I loved numerous sports and martial arts all my life, this book also made me realize that I also can identify clearly with other Archetypes such as the intellectual, artist/creative, the spiritual seeker and definitively the warrior. This easy to read volume covers the following material: Archetypes: the new inner-net, your personal journey, the advocate, the artist/creative, the athlete, the caregiver, the fashionista, the intellectual, the Queen/Executive, the rebel, the spiritual seeker, the visionary, and the archetype gallery. If you are seeking to find out who you are this book points the way by exploring numerous archetypes. You may find your true calling or you may discover like I have, that you are a combination of many archetypes. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. A timely and easy to read revamp about an interesting topic.
Archetypes have always interested me, but not from an academic perspective. Although it tends to be academics who write about them. Caroline Myss is an incredibly switched-on woman, and her slant on the topic is well worth a read. For anyone wanting to find out what energetic currents they swim in and why they love what it is that they love (and why the bottom can fall out of their world if that energetic part of them isn't being fed) then this is a really good book to get you back on track without squashing your own unique take on that particular energy. It offers practical guidelines for helping you recognise when you're going off track - exhibiting the shadow aspect of the archetype - but is equally as accepting of whichever face that archetype presents in your life. You don't feel wrong, just better understood. Because I'd read a bit about archetypes, I only gave the book 4 stars. It is well written and comprehensive in terms of how far she wants to take the topic - which is to help people reconnect with those core (but shifting) energetic undercurrents that inhabit our modern world - but may prove a bit lightweight for a small percentage of readers. That said, I found it extremely helpful to remind me, and help me better understand some core energies that are at play in my world (and why my wheels can fall off if I am not honouring them). Helpful, well written, and the social website that Ms Myss has aligned herself with as part of the story telling is also worth checking out. (I bought the Kindle version because I was keen to get my hands on it, but will also by a hardcopy to enable me to share it with others.)

Very Interesting
I recently started listening to Caroline Myss and reading her blog. I was first interested because she is a medical intuitive, and then after listening to some of her recordings, I realized I enjoy her insightful, take-no-prisoners style. I'm reading this book as kind of a primer for her "Sacred Contracts," which I plan to read soon. I'm only 75% in, but had to pause to say that I am amazed by her description of the Feminist Rebel. I've rarely thought of myself as rebellious, but reading this chapter opened my eyes--and explained some behaviors I've always found perplexing if not alarming. It's like she peeled back a layer and showed me a part of myself that's been there all along but I couldn't see it. Now I can, and it feels liberating. I love her laser-fine insights and look forward to learning more.

Did not deliver much clarity
Either the whole archetype definition is complex or this book is shallow. I read it which was an easy read. But that left me with no clear understanding of what my archetypes are. I also looked up the website of the author and a self definition test which is yet again mystical and complex. I am interested in this topic but for now don’t have much clarity on it.

Interesting Read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be referring to it frequently as I continue my journey of growth. Understanding human nature has been a lifelong quest and Caroline Myss was there at the very beginning with Sacred Contracts. I highly recommend any of her works.

Who Are You & At What Cost
I love books that provide insight into who I am and what drives me and this is one of the best. Well-written and with a clear and very logical approach to the age-old topic of archetypes, Caroline Myss makes it easy for anyone to identify behaviors, their own or a loved ones, that indicate a certain archetype or model but that's just the beginning. Myss also tells you where each archetype gets its power, where it loses power and when the strengths inherent in the archetype, taken to excess, can lead to a characteristic weakness. Unlike some other books on this topic, Myss writes straight-forward stuff with a chapter for each identified archetype. Don't want to read the whole book? Don't. Just browse, find your behaviors and start reading about why you do the things you do!

Who knew?
This book reveals, with clarity and good perspective, your inner workings and how to get the most out of who you "really" are. I was fascinated that I saw so much of my personality defined constructively. Archetypes has helped me better embrace my strengths and stop worrying about other peoples expectations- especially when their ideas / needs just do not take into account who I need to be for myself! Life is short- listen to the voice in your heart and follow the path it leads you to discover!

always good to know
This is a simple explanation of what archetypes are about. Truly for beginners, which open my mind towards recognizing my inner strength. Having an archetype , or a few archetypes to relate to definitely define why I do what I do. A great book to start you off to getting to know something deeper. If you are wondering why you do what you do, this is a good book for some revelation.

Blowing my mind wider!!!
I have just started reading this book and I have the cards. However, I can tell that already this book has helped me understand so much about myself and how important it is to identify your archetypes. As well I purchased a book by Magenta Pixie, Masters of the Matrix. Which helped me immensely to understand how our archetypes are formed before we incarnate on a planet. So interesting! I’m thoroughly enjoying my journey!
