Flights of No Return: Aviation History's Most Infamous One-Way Tickets to Immortality Hardcover – July 10, 2015

"Flights of No Return" is an interesting overview of several aviation tragedies and strange occurences. Some incidents will be familiar to most readers, while many may be new. The chapters are brief, so "students" of the subject will probably want to seek more detailed information about each incident after reading Ruffin's book, but even for those readers, Ruffin's work is a well-written and engaging "starting-off-point" to learn about some of the ill-fated flights that are recounted in it.

This is a pretty solid read on flights that left and never came back. Not all the flights are "mysterious" ones, although there is a good assortment of them. If you've read a decent amount on the subject, you're going to find many of the "usual suspects" show up - Amelia Earhart, Major Glenn Miller, DB Cooper (although technically that flight did land), and the Avengers of Flight 19.Other flights include the Red Baron's last flight, JFK Jr, the Challenger disaster, a Swedish attempt to balloon to the North Pole, Flight 93 on September 11, the DC-3 shootdown that killed Leslie Howard, the soccer team in the Andes (subject of Alive), Eastern Airlines Flight 401, a Liberator that crashed in the African desert, and MH 370.The author limits himself to published materials, so if you've read about any of these, there's not new material. Some of the flights I was not familiar with. The writing is solid, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's just starting their interest in the subject - or who just can't resist one more book about flights that never came home.

Good book. More detail on some know events and some not so well known. I enjoyed it.

This is a fascinating read. As the author explains, it does not offer any new information or discoveries. It does however provide a cornucopia of known, but seldom reported, details regarding each flight. These details coupled with other people's "expert" opinions can lead you to draw what may be a best case scenario as to what "likely" happened or what "likely" was the best contributing factor to each tragic event.

We just bought this book and it is excellent, a must read....once my husband started reading I couldn't get my hands on it until he was done and all he could do was rave on how well written it is and how he learned many facts....I agree, we plan on buying for our grandson

Physically, the book was a quality product except that the paper had a high sheen level that reflected into the readers eyes. The print was also in a delicate font and further, was a half tone in darkness. This required moving the book or the light source or changing the readers position frequently to be able to read comfortably. The writing was good, but I, as an aviator, was already familiar all of the cases selected.

This book is a good synopsis of several missing flight stories. They are well researched and while essentially summaries, they give a fair account of the various theories that surround most of these disappearances. I would recommend this read to those aviation buffs who would like a short rendition of missing aircraft under unique circumstances. These stories may pique your interest to further research some of the disappearances.

Excellent stories, well written with more info than we ever get from usual sources (newspapers, Magazines, etc.) Book arrived in timely fashion and in new condition.
