INFO EVEN A LIFETIME BEATLE'S FAN DIDN'T KNOW
I like the way it was organized, by album. Everybody has a favorite album and you can go to that section for very interesting tidbits of info that will make even the biggest Beatle expect say "wow". There are even pictures I haven't seen before (and I thought I'd seen them all). I got it in the hard cover version which is nice. I plan on reading it often and the Paperback wears down after a while. For each song they give the lyrics, nice pictures during the recoding, and a brief, sometimes longer info regarding how the song came about. Once in awhile you purchase something that makes you say "nice"! Why didn't I buy this before?

Nice book, good info, great pictures, too many errors for a 5th printing.
The good news is the pictures are quite unique, almost all I'm seeing for the first time. Gathering together all the various comments about a song which previously had been scattered through various interviews and books is nice (although still missing a few comments about particular songs which I've seen in interviews elsewhere). The book itself is very nice overall. However, although I'm only up to the "Beatles For Sale" section, I'm already noticing huge errors, and this is a 5th printing? Examples: "It Won't Be Long" was first released in the US on "With The Beatles"? (and that particular error is duplicated on nearly every "Meet The Beatles" song). "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" was released in the UK as the b-side to "Eight Days a Week"? That was only a single in the US. At the end of the "She's a Woman" long outtake, he mentions that it's Paul who says "...we've got a single and an instrumental there"? That was Ringo who said it. Come on - just so many petty errors like this (which I may have accepted in a first printing (but not really!), I have to wonder about the rest of the stories. Also, some of the lame pseudo-psychological explanations of the writers' motivations are a bit naive to me. There's some typos and garbled sentences which I find hard to accept for a 5th printing. Hey Mr. Turner, next time get me (or anyone!!) to proof-read it for you.Overall a nice-to-have with some good info and great pics, but too lazy/sloppy for the price, imo.

Great Beatles book
Lots of interesting information and fun facts. I like the layout of addressing each song separately.

Perfect for the Beatles Fan in Anyone's Life
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my father-in-law, so the book is no longer in my possession...but I wish it was! As a Beatles fan myself, I came very close to pulling off the wrapping paper and keeping this for myself. Before wrapping it up, I flipped through the book and read the stories behind some of my absolute favorite songs by The Beatles. For example, did you know that "Dear Prudence" was written about Mia Farrow's sister Prudence? Steve Turner's book is full of these interesting little nuggets. This isn't the type of book you're going to sit down and read for hours, but it makes for a wonderful coffee table book that you can pick up and read bits of from time to time. If you're looking to buy a gift for a Beatles fan, look no further.

A Bit of John Praising and Paul Trashing
The chemistry of these four should be undeniable as is the songwriting of John and Paul. Some songs can easily be defined as John's or Paul's but the collaboration, at times, makes them less pure but no less masterpieces. In his book, the author's bias toward John's work often demeans Paul's efforts. While I liked the peek behind the door, it clearly angered rather than educated.

It's all too much !
A lavishly illustrated coffee table book, featuring every self-penned Beatle lyric in big type accompanied by background information, some speculative ( "mays", "coulds" "probablys" abound ),some based on sold fact.Of "Sun King" we are helpfully reminded that Louis XIV of France was called the Sun King, and told that Nancy Mitford had recently published a book about him ( actually, three years earlier ) "and John may have come across it". Yes he may. Or may not. Turner then adds, perhaps in desperation, that "It may also have been a jokey reference to George's song "Here Comes the Sun" Indeed. It may...who knows ? Who cares ? It's only a northern song, after all.Of course there is more to the book than vast amounts of guesswork and trivia. For example, we are told that "She Loves You" was written in The Imperial Hotel, Jesmond and not at The Royal Turk's Head in Newcastle as "had previously been thought". How do we know ? Well, in 1992 it was reported that "local man Bernard Armstrong had drunk with them at the hotel and could remember unloading equipment with them from their van" Good to get that cleared up !If you need to know how many people named Mustard are on the electoral roll, or that after appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, the group spent four additional nights at the Deauville Hotel on Collins Avenue, then this is the book for you.

Good insight fir Beatles fans
Bought for my musical Beatle loving husband. He found it very interesting and gleaned a lot of information he didn’t previously know, although he’s well versed on Beatles history already. A good purchase at a reasonable price.
