Hello, it's generally okay if there is sufficient mortar or self-leveling screed covering the heating installation as this helps provide an even heat distribution. However there are many different qualities of flooring so it's always best to to consult your flooring manufacturer.

Q: can this be placed in the shower floor?

Hello, yes the heating cable can be placed in the shower, however, as with all floor heating one should keep the splice (join between heating element 'burgundy wire' and the cold lead 'black wire') about 2 ft outside the shower area.
