I am not your baby mother. I feel very sorry for the author and her life experiences and would like to clarify that although she writes as though her experiences are the template for all black women, that certainly is not true. Many black women are in successful relationships. Have waited until they are financially secure before having children and have not been sexually abused as children. This book is a very narrow minded look at what life was like for Candice not for the majority of black women as the book implies.Whilst certain aspects ring true ie the choosing of a name for one’s child, other aspects such as no need to go to university or not being able to afford a pushchair?! Are absolute nonsense. On the other hand, Akala’s book is a fantastic read. This should be on the national curriculum.
