Works GREAT! I am using it to hone my carving ...
Received the kit today and installed it. Read the "negative" reviews before buying about the leather being bumpy. No problem, a couple of minutes with a sanding block and it was trued up. I did not expect the leather to be perfectly true to the disc since it comes from an animal and the folks who make leather are not machinists. Works GREAT! I am using it to hone my carving gouges. Puts a very nice mirror finish on the tools. I have been using the WS3000 for a couple of years but had not got around to using it for the carving tools. Should have bought this much sooner. No matter how you cut the mustard, this is a good deal. A blank glass disc costs about $20, for $4 more you get the leather. Several posters complained that it should have been included in the machine package. Not so fast, I did not need it for doing my chisels. Nor do most people who only use it for chisels. So why should they pay an extra $25? Then have something laying around that they do not use? Sounds dumb to me!

Let’s get back to work!
If you’re on the fence, just buy it. The honing compound might be small but once I seasoned it on the leather you wind need much. I keep mine covered to prevent and particles embedding themself into the leather in the shop. I will never regret buying something that kept my tools sharp and gets be back on the bench working. I hope it does the same for you!

I like the idea of this but my disc was really ...
Update: While I had some frustrations with the product I had first received, and had thought that the company had some faults for known issues, I must update this review and note that when I reached out, the company was very very quick and professional to help me out with my issues. My second leather wheel works excellent. I use it now along with their felt wheels all the time with gouges, chisels, and plane blades. In fact, both the leather and the felt are used more any any of sand paper discs and you can have two different grit compounds that work for well over 90% of my needs. Old Review: I like the idea of this but my disc was really uneven creating a wobble that is bad enough so that it renders this useless. Essentially it seems that some of the leather is 1/16" or maybe or 3/32" higher then the rest. It doesn't seem like a lot but when the outside of the disc is spinning at a fairly rapid speed, there's no way to use the disc. The tools literally can't be held down and the whole unit rattles. I have tried to use sand paper on a block while the disc is spinning to sand off the high spots but it hasn't worked yet. I may try getting a little more aggressive with it next. I'd say rather then throw it away, I'll somehow get the leather off and keep the glass disc. Additionally, I will say that I want to love the WS3000 but my additions such as this leather disc and the wide blade table and holder had the exact same problems I've read about in reviews here over the last couple years. These are known issues and you'd think a company would care to fix these known issue. I understand that having molds and jigs changed up overseas would take some time but these issues have been around for years and years. I really want WS to listen to their customers and become a smarter better company.

Great investment for time and blade edges!
I spent a little extra for the leather stropping wheel for the work sharp blade Sharpening System. I was nervous with the thought of sharpening my lathe chisels, but watching a few vids, and taking a practing run, I am not sure what I was nervous about anymore lol. The strop wheel is a great investment for touching up the blade edges without having to do a resharp all the way around, saving time and your blades. Really happy with this entire system, and the leather stropping is the capstone for me :) Thank you so much for this amazing system!

Awesome Accessory for Tool Sharpener
Having the extra grits and acrylic disc has made the grinding process much more efficient. I was able to apply a moderate grit on the extra disc, and swap as needed with other discs

The easy way to get to sharp
As a luthier, my chisels have to be sharp. I use to use water stones and they did put an edge on a blade that was sharp beyond belief but even sharpening with a micro bevel, they were painfully slow. I finally decided I really wanted to spend my time building instruments, not sharpening my tools, relaxing zen like process that it could be. I chose the Work Sharp system because it looked sturdy enough, the design of the tool made sense and it looked like actual woodworkers had some input on the design. Oh, and it was reasonably priced. Like any new system, it took a bit to figure out how best to use it but, once I'd gotten past the short learning curve, it totally met all my needs. Before I took my good chisels to it, I tried out a rusty old plane blade that was in an old wood bodied plane that I'd been given as a decorative item. In less than twenty minutes, I took that nanky old blade and turned it into one of the best working plane blades in my shop. I was flat amazed at how well this machine works. When I had a question about the machine and I contacted the company, their advice was quick, dead on accurate, and pleasant from the very start. I couldn't be more pleased. Do your hands a favor and get this machine.

Excellent final step to razor sharp shop tools
The finished polish this gives was amazing... If you are looking for something more than a few grit options, I recommend this. Additionally, you can put a higher grit on the bottom than the ones in your kit and make an additional 5th surface to sharpen with. I now have 120, 400, 1000, 3600, 6000 and the strop. It made wonderfully quick work of my Japanese chisels and PMV11 steel plane blades.
