It is a page turner
The book gives real insight into how the idle rich can become delusional and have their minds corrupted. Their minds become corrupted because they can buy their Glory instead of working for it, and the masses are made to grovel at their feet hoping to be the benefactor of whatever crumbs fall off their table! They are much like a puppet masters, who get sick joy, from pulling on the strings of people around them, like they are toy marionettes. Who only exist to keep for the amusement & gratification they're selfish egos.It also gives insight into amount of personal sacrifice that goes into becoming an Olympic wrestler. The type of work ethic wrestlers have represents the best traditions and values of American culture. Setting a grand example that we should all strive to follow and emulate! It's beautiful to read about Mark's Shultz's personal triumphs in the face of great adversity.

Mark Schultz give a great back drop to his early life with his mother
The autobiography of Mark Schultz and the struggles of his life, the brother that he always looked up to, Dave Schultz, and the man, John Du Pont, that took all most everything from him. Mark Schultz gives a great back drop to his early life with his mother, father, and Brother who he had always had a rivalry with even before they started their wrestling careers. Sadly Mark's mother and father divorced early in his life which lead to him having anxiety problem, but he turned these problem into his sport careers particularly wrestling. Wining many championships along with this brother Dave they got to the Olympic level of the sport and wining gold becoming the only brothers in history to win double gold in wrestling. Schultz goes in depth with his relationship with Du Pont and the problems the man had and what he took from him other then killing his brother Dave out of a kind of jealousy for taking over the Olympic team that Du Pont made; know as Foxcatcher. Du Pont was a very mentally problem redden man that Schultz goes over his past as a young man and his social isolation, the problems he had with this mother, as well as him wanting to become a Olympic athlete, but never could. You could see that the team Foxcatcher is a make up for past failure in Du Pont's life or you could see it as just another of Du Pont collection of things that he frequently did with other things he found interesting, but would become bored of and moved on to something else. Kind of like a child. But most of all he had a need for control over his life. This Ultimately leading to Du Pont taking Mark Schultz's Brother from him as well as his dignity as a wrestler. The best thing about this true story of a tragedy that could have been avoided is that Mark Schultz comes out as a fighter in the end and gaining his dignity back when he joined the UFC for a time. He always considers his Brother Dave as the greatest wrestler ever, but Mark should consider himself as one of the best if not the best fighter in the world for the struggles he has gone through. And that any person can learn about how your struggles have meaning and that you should keep fighting.

Painfully transparent...that is what makes this book great
For anyone interested in getting to the heart of what it takes to be one of the greatest athletes America has produced, this book is a great read. My interest is that I wrestled at Stanford while Mark Schultz was an assistant there, and we became good friends. One of the greatest experiences of my life was watching Mark and Dave wrestle with each other the hour or so before the collegiate practice started. Their wrestling was the most intense man on man competition imaginable. This book gives a glimpse into Mark's mind that gave birth to this athletic magic.Mark was a very intense athlete. Wrestling and winning was absolutely everything to Mark, but Mark wasn't one to open up about the mental side of his wrestling. This book lays it out there. The role that fear of losing played in Mark Schultz's motivations is almost tragic. I think to enjoy the book fully the reader needs to accept that Mark is being honest about his flaws without attempting to "fix" himself. This raw unfiltered expression is part of the portrait that makes the book so insightful into the fighter's mind. This book like the movie is certainly not attempting to make Mark Schultz a hero, but simply a fighter obsessed with being the best fighter he can be. This is a great and quick read. Five stars.

Get to know the real Mark Schultz
After seeing the movie Foxcatcher, the Netflix documentary Team Foxcatcher, and the 30 for 30 documentary, Prince of Pennsylvania, I felt drawn to purchase and read Mark Schultz's book, Foxcatcher. I realized that if I wanted to hear the whole, unadulterated story, unfiltered and straight out of the tap, reading the book authored by Mark Schultz himself, was the only way to get it. I was drawn to his story for several reasons. I wanted to learn his whole story so that I could get a better understanding of how people, events and opportunities shaped him on and off the mat. He did an excellent job chronicling his life so that his readers could get to know him as a whole person, from childhood through adulthood.I was also extremely interested (this was perhaps my biggest draw) in the psychology of Mark Schultz as it related to wrestling ....what skills/behaviors he practiced and how he contextualized his thoughts so that he could create within himself a mental climate that allowed him to continually go into battle (wrestling at that level for so long), and not only succeed, but to dominate.... thoroughly. I wanted to find out if that same tenacity wove through other areas of his life and shaped how he dealt with difficult things off the mat. I wanted to know what Mark Schultz knows, what he learned via his blood, sweat and tears. I am an athlete myself, as well as a human being getting through life like everyone else. I figured that Mark might have penned some strategies in his book for dealing with adversity, staying focused, and success in sport and in life. I was not disappointed! This book is ultimately about Mark, which is what I was hoping for when I ordered it. It was a brave, warrior effort on his part to bring this book to life. I'm so glad he shared his story with us.I highly recommend!
