The Geeky Bartender Drinks: Real-Life Recipes for Fantasy Cocktails (Geeky Chef)

Really cool and unique!
I bought this for my very geeky mom and watched her read through the recipes. The author has created drinks inspired by many different geeky franchises and explains why she decided to use the ingredients she did for each of them. There are some more niche franchises included that I was excited about, like Monkey Island. It's a good mix of video game, movie, and TV inspired cocktails, as well as a good mix of drink types. Highly reccomend!

Perfect for nerds
I can’t say enough good things about this book. I have worked through making about half of the recipes and have really enjoyed all of them. All but two of the recipes are unique and all have been easy to make. The syrup recipes are very tasty and also easy to make. I have quite a few cocktail books and this is absolutely one of my new favorites. If you are a nerd that enjoys a good cocktail this book is for you!

Creative and Interesting
Purchased as a gift but now I'm thinking of getting another for myself! There are a lot of really cool recipes, not to mention beautifully presented drink photos. You can tell the author really put a lot of heart into it. There are drinks both famous and obscure, and every one she does her best to do justice to. Plus the recipient loved it :)

Excellent novelty, limited usability
First of all, there's a lot to like about this book. Honestly, I'd prefer to give it 3.5 stars if Amazon allowed it. However, there are some limitations. To begin with, the good: The thoughtfulness of recipes and how they relate to the various geeky properties is excellent. The layout, design, and photography are also all top-notch.The problem comes from how useful / practical this book will actually be. Almost all of the recipes call for very uncommon ingredients that most people are not likely to have on-hand. For example, one might not be too keen to purchase melon liqueur just to make one or two cocktails from the book. Even if you do, what do you do with the remaining ingredient if you decide you don't particularly care for the cocktail after the novelty wears off? Also, the index is frustratingly incomplete. For example, it does an excellent job of cross referencing a number of the geeky properties throughout the book. However, far more useful would have been to include in the index all of the specialty ingredients, if for no other reason so that you can determine if that bottle of, say, the aforementioned melon liqueur, can be used in anything else.I feel like some might pull this from the shelves once, maybe twice a year for some themed party, where a special trip to purchase a batch of oddball ingredients isn't out of line. However, for most, I fear that once the initial novelty of browsing through it wears off, little use will be found other than showing it off for friends and proclaiming "yeah, we should make these sometime." And then promptly forgetting about it.

Can't wait to get started
I've recently purchased this book, looking for some ideas to serve for my themed parties or just something new to try. I'd like to think I can make my way through this book one way or another! However, the first themed recipe in the book isn't correct. The ingredients listed aren't for the directions for White-Gold Tower. Doesn't look too good when the very first thing is wrong, but the recipes that really pique my interests seem okay, at least.I couldn't find a section on the author's website for revisions, so might just skip that one. I love the pictures, and grateful most of the recipes have pictures. I look forward to picking up both of her cookbooks eventually.

Yes
If you’re looking this hard you enjoy drinking and gamer-geeky stuff too so just do it. You won’t regret it. Most of the drinks are cool enough even your non gamer-geeky friends are going to be interested.

Fun, creative book
This is such a cute little drink book. Several different Fandom drinks to choose from. Even gives pointers on how to prepare them and level them up with garnishes and such. 10/10

Good for your favourite nerd
Bought this for a friend as a gift and it went over well.👍 pros:✅ wide variety of “geeky” topics covered from shows, to movies, to games.✅ lots of different drinks to choose from👎 cons:❌ some drinks are a bit involved for average home bartenders❌ not all ingredients are available everywhereRecommendation:I would recommend this if you or a friend is a nerd culture enthusiast that also likes to make cocktails at home.

Looks Nice
Great recipe ideas and a pictures. Looks like a fun gift. Just glancing through the index, I wish the types of alcohol was referenced. If I have rum, I would like to know which recipes are for rum. etc., therefore lost a star.

Really nice cocktails. Some ingredients are hard to find though
I made the tatooine sunset from Star Wars and it was really tasty. Some of the recipes can be hard to find the ingredients for but maybe that’s just me.
