It's good but it's not great.I had the zoomed tc-30 turtle filter and apparently they don't make the carbon inserts that come with it anymore so I settled for these. The packs are small so I used two in the cannister. It made the water cloudy like a lot, but I also didn't soak it cause I forgot so might have been my fault. I use it in the package so it's easier to clean up when it's done for. So taking it out might make it work better. My turtles swimming area is a 20 gallon tank so I find it a bit odd that using two of the 3 didn't make it work any better than the one it came with.Not all bad though, it does work well but from the previous reviews I was just expecting more.

These carbon filters are ready to use and absolutely essential for a clean, healthy tank. Just open, rinse well and replace. Super filtration and easy to dispose of. Keeps my fish alive for years.

For HoB filters Aquaclear has been the only brand I would go with for over 10 years now. Low dust, and can easily go a month before changing out.

You can use or not use carbon, or you can use or not use ammonia remover. You can use the filter sponge or you can use polyester batting. You can buy packaged filtration products or create your own. You aren't restricted to just using proprietary filters with a teaspoon of activated charcoal sandwiched in a plastic insert. You will probably save money in the long run with this filter. It's also very quiet, much quieter than other filters I've used. If this unit holds up over time, I'll be completely satisfied.
