DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
I'm writing this review because this is an incredible value, and I want these products to continue selling well. Many of the people are finding that these will not close correctly, or close at all. Some find that the float will not close until it is submerged by several inches. I also experienced this, and I figured out the issue. Since these are made of plastic, they will *slightly* deform if you overtighten the large nut. This imperciptible deformation causes the valve to stick, and may not close when the float is submerged. To fix this, fill the tank until the float is submerged, and then loosen the nut until the float pops up. You may hear the valve 'creak' as it closes. Try to loosen it a bit further as you manually open & close this valve until this creaking sound is eliminated. Don't loosen it so much that it leaks from the O ring. Also, like all plumbing, you will need to put teflon tape on the right angle adapter threads. All threaded plumbing threads leak without teflon tape. That said, these things are an INCREDIBLE value! They work extremely well, and they are incredibly inexpensive. I was worried that they might emit a cheap chemical smell, and I do not want any of that in my potable water application. They have no chemical smell at all, and they are well made :).

Works great, no leaks.
I've been using these for 2 Carolina Reaper pepper plants growing in hydroponic buckets. I have a central water reservoir that keeps the buckets topped up via these float valves, they've been in use for around 2 months now and I haven't had a single leak at all, they perform their job perfectly. I took the time to install them correctly, and they work.Additionally, I have 1 installed in the lid of a 5 gallon water bucket that I use to fill up my home and grow tent humidifiers with water from my reverse osmosis water filter system. I installed a t tap and valve into the RO system, so I can plug the float valve in the bucket lid into the RO system to have it fill the bucket for me, and have it shut off when the bucket is near full. In this situation, the valve shuts off a 95 PSI pump pressurised water line without issues. Average home water pressure varies between30-80 PSI, so this valve is quite capable.Ignore the reviews that talk about the valve being normally open or normally closed and not working for people, the solution to their "problem" is to flip the thing around so the float goes the other way in the up and down direction, that is literally it. Those reviews are being posted by people who have no idea how water and gravity work.

Works to make Ice makers auto fill
The media could not be loaded. I have a GE Opal nugget ice maker. My biggest frustration with this ice maker is the constant need to refill the water reservoir so the unit can keep making ice. I've tried other ice makers and all seem to have similar issues. I ordered this float and installed in the water supply reservoir. It seems to work great. I highly recommend this float. Benefits of this approach: can hook up most any ice maker to filtered and pressurized water. Reservoir stays full.

Great solution for a small fountain.
Purchased a small outdoor water fountain which required regular resevoir replinishment due to evaporation. Ran a 1/4" line off my garden irrigation and every morning when the vegetables are watered, the fountain gets refilled to the level set with the float valve. Perfect!

A little bit leaky
all plastic construction, including the actual valve assembly. This results in a very slow leak even when in the "closed" position. I use this to control an autofill for an outside pond so the drip is not an issue, but may be for someone with a smaller volume container.
