Best bang for your buck bushcraft knife
I live in the heart of the Adirondack mountains, and spend a tremendous amount of time out in the field. I own a ton of knives. This knife caught my eye when it first came out, and I couldn't wait to buy it and put it through hell out here in the cold wet wilderness. When I got the knife, I was pleased with the craftsmanship, fit and finish. The knife feels great in my hand, and working with it for hours doing all kinds of tasks was a pleasure. The knife came razor sharp, and stayed sharp while using it for days. A few strokes on the strop and it was hair shaving sharp again. I had seasoned the blade when it first arrived, and the carbon steel blade has stayed rust free. I am very pleased with this knife and it has become my go to bushcraft knife. If your looking for the best bang for your buck bushcraft knife, this is it.

Gotta love a scandi grind
Great knife. The thick micarta grips make it the most comfortable grip I've ever had on a factory knife . The leather sheath required some conditioner as out of the box it required 2 hands and chimpanzee strength to pull the knife out.

Not tough enough
It comes with a note that says the knife is not appropriate for batoning or other heavy duty tasks. Esee has a reputation for rugged knives so it was quite a surprise to see the company warning about durability from the get go. Super comfortable handle, though.

so close. could have been perfect but....
awesome size and could have been the perfect "one knife" for general camp and woodcraft if it were tougher. I love 4-4.5 inch blades but don't always need a "big" knife. The RB3 does carves like a beast and I almost have to lay off for fine cuts because it wants to hog the wood like a beaver. It's short coming is it won't batton without damage and even suseptible to such with hard use. The fact that it comes with such a warning in the box should be indication of its limitation....not what i have come to expect from Esee. I am sure Esee would take care of it but it does come with a warning not too. I don't blame the grind as I have other scandi knives of similar blade stock that don't chip with harder use. I have to assume it is the 1095 or heat treat. I wail on all my other Esee with flat grind without issue as well. It may have been better in o1 or a2?great knife for what it is but not sure what that is given its limitations....just need to find a role for it as it is too large to be a companion knife and too fragile to be primary.

Strong Handle, Delicate Edge
I have used this knife and it's edge is very thin and best to be used as a carving/whittling knife. The handle is not great for long term use and is handle heavy. This knife is puzzling as ESEE put a full-tang handle (heaviest, strongest, & most costly handle for hard use applications) on on the Camp-Lore RB3 and then have the RB3's edge geometry so thin.Overpriced for what you get compared to other knives around $100 USD.Also please note denting & bending on the edge of the knife (1st photo) from test batoning (I know you are not supposed to baton with a knife).

Very good solid well build knife
Scandi grind is a razor blade. Weak but very sharp. If you are mindfull of the weakness and use knife accordingly then what you have is essentially a straight razor. Very good solid well build knife. Worth every penny. Esse made knives great again. And the spine is 90 degrees so the fire steel will work.

I love this knife!!
I love this knife!! It's great for carving/whittling, and small camp sight tasks. I've used it to baton wood and have had no issues (it comes with a paper that states not to use this knife to baton wood). I know you shouldn't use any knife to do this, but I had to test the blade for myself. I use it as a companion knife for my TOPS Tahoma and my Hults Bruk forester axe. This knife has held beautifully for every task I've used it for.

It's a great companion knife that fits perfectly in my hand
It's a great companion knife that fits perfectly in my hand. It's not a do all survival knife and if you take care of it, it will last a long time. My only complaint is that some of the stitching on the sheath came undone but it was an easy fix.

Magnique lame
