A lovely book that will make you smile, and then catch you ...
A warm, honest, humorous beekeeping love story that is guaranteed to entertain and inform you of everything about bees and what can go wrong ... and what can go right. But here lies a warning, read this book but beeware. all that humor is a honey trap! You'll be researching hives and local beekeeping associations before you've finished it - bee warned!

The perfect present, guaranteed to bring a smile
With a background of mid life changes and a renewed understanding of nature, this book is full of gentle, dry, humour. Friendship, marriage and everyday rural life runs through each chapter. The book is, in truth, a chronicle of a brave decision to change the author’s working life in a fashion that few of us would have the guts, or support, to attempt. Oh, and if it doesn’t instil a fondness for bees, then shame on you.

A warm and colourful look at life
Roger writes with humour and enthusiasm about a subject he clearly loves. As he wanders through his changing life, he makes you feel like there is much more to appreciate in life than the rat race - I loved it , it’s a warm, colourful look at middle England life. I would highly recommend it you don’t need to love bees to love this book. He clearly also has a very long suffering and rather wise wife !.

Joyous
A soul-gladdening trip through the glories of nature, bees particularly but not exclusively, and a beautifully-written, timely reminder of what is most important in life. If this doesn't make you gently question yourself, then I'd be surprised. It had me, hive, frame and friendship. For anyone contemplating the wide spectrum of middle age - or bee-keeping!

More than a story about bees.
Great book with loads of information about keeping bees, and a heartwarming story about how two friends can work together in adversity to achieve something worthwhile.

lovely mid life story with fascinating subject matter
Written with a light , humorous touch , this is a lovely , heart warming story . There is a serious message about the decline bee population but it makes the point without lecturing via a series of funny escapades . The writing is very accomplished and skips along nicely

A rather uplifting story for our times
Roger's writing is excellent, accessible and he is a great storyteller. I found the bee facts fascinating, and the journey both he and Duncan went on in pursuit of his new hobby admirable. It is the first book that I've read by Roger, and it certainly won't be the last! Highly recommend.
