Holy Hesychia: The Stillness that Knows God

Original Christianity
I was disappointed to learn the original book was out of print. I sold mine 5 years ago. Soon learned this edition is a redo by Robin Amis I purchased it. Robin included his commentary of The Triads by St Gregory Palamas. He is more than qualified for this endeavor due to his many trips to Mt Athos and conversations with the monks AND his prayerful life.Highly recommend this book. This book should be kept by ones side along with the Scriptures and a Hi-Liter for an entire life and humbly submit to it’s teachings. Every sentence should be read and reread slowly and allow this Gold to be digested into ones psyche. The teachings were never introduced into Western Christianity be it Roman Catholicism or the thousands of Protestant Churches today. Many will say its heretical and disapprove. They will miss out of the greatest adventure in human history.Take it slow and understand the terminology which is key and most important is the revelation of Christ which will appear within ones being upon a heart of purity.

A MASTERPIECE OF CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY
A MASTERPIECE OF CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY1. THE BIG THREE: the three major theologians every Christian should study are: BARTH; AQUINAS; & PALAMAS2. EASTERN THEOLOGY: has been neglected; and should be given its due; especially in recognizing this work3. ALL ABOUT TIME: for Palamas; theology is about: Inward time; Radiant time; and Outward timea. INWARD TIME = the realm of positing, where we form our sign-model of God’s kingdomb. OUTWARD TIME = the external world where we participate in God’s kingdom by “demonstrating-truth”c. RADIANT TIME = the influence of the Holy Spirit that floods both inward and outward time4. RETURN MOMENT: when we return out of ministry; back into the reflective self; we enter the state of HESYCHIA-STILLNESS that knows God and imprints the heart with Christ5. 5 STARS: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED6. Great book to hear Palamas’ side of the argument
I got this book because I wanted to learn more about the hesychast controversy. I was very satisfied with the translation, footnotes, and commentary provided. Though I think Palamas repeated himself and wrote at length at times about things that could have been said in a couple of paragraphs instead of in a couple of pages, I’m glad I was able to read what he was saying in defense of their practice. The first volume barely touches on the controversy. It ends like any series of fiction with the reader wanting more. I hope more volumes are published soon with the rest of the triads. A hardcover version would be greatly appreciated.

Moe than we deserve
As we struggle through these confused times it is a blessing to have the wisdom from the enlightened men of the past. This is not an easy read, but it rewards the effort we make, and gives us the words of one of God's saints.
