Can this be used in breadboards

This are standard DIP8 2.54mm pitch ICs - which will fit any standard breadboard, perf board, or DIP IC socket.

Any advantages using a 555 cmos version? thanks!

Yes. The CMOS version consumes very low current. The threshold and trigger leakeage currents are lower too. Not sure about the frequency response. I recomend you to check the Datasheet of both original and CMOS one and compare.
