The set I have was made in Mexico, but don't let that you put you off. This set has good sharp points and hooks, much better than any Boye hooks. I highly recommend these hooks. 5 of 5 stars.

I'm taking a beginners crocheting class, and need to bring a crochet hook. would these be good to start out with?

I am kind of a beginner and must completely disagree with the person who said these are not good for beginners. Also that the groove is not deep enough. I have personally found the opposite with these hooks. They are my favorite of any I have purchased so far and they have a much deeper, more defined groove which prevents the yarn sliding off your hook. I would recommend these hooks to anyone, every day!

Are the sizes marked on the hooks?

Yes the size is marked on every hook. There is one size missing, size 7. Size 7 is 4.50mm and must be bought separately. I use size 7 for about all crocheting I do. Make sure you get Susan Bates as they are the best.

Are these made in the U.S.A.?

Evidently, they are not. The back of the pack states "Made in Mexico" and each needle also has this printed on it.
