I live in a ski town and it's snowy 6 months out of the year. Last year I fell REALLY HARD a couple times on the ice wearing what I thought was proper footwear. This year I wasn't taking any chances. A friend of mine years ago had sworn by these, so I gave them a try (they were a SUPER good price and I loved the glow in the dark). They are AWESOME! I can walk with a normal gait with these and feel confident on the ice now.WARNING!!!!!!!!!!! Although these are effective in the snow and ice, they are EXTREMELY dangerous to wear indoors. I was wearing these and was running into work and just about ate it on the tile as I jogged inside. The Yaktrax are very easy to put on and take off, so I am careful to take them off before going indoors now.

Yaktrax are pretty good
I bought these to prevent slipping while walking to school on icy roads and sidewalks. They do a good job of it, but unfortunately, even with proper sizing they can fall off somewhat unexpectedly. One night I was walking home and one unknowingly fell off - so I had to backtrack after getting home and finding it missing. Thew work pretty well on ice, but check as you walk to make sure you don't lose them anywhere. That's really my main problem with them. They go on and seem tight, but if they get stuck on something (like a twig) while walking they can pop right off and you might not notice - especially when walking in the dark.

Great Stability, Questionable Quality over Time
These saved me last winter when New England was inundated with snow and cities could not keep up with maintenance and removal. Many landlords were not able to remove dangerous levels of ice from sidewalks. Enter Yaktrax, recommended by a friend of mine who noticed I was trying to get by in my rain boots (the only thing tall enough to get through the feet of snow!). These radically changed my stability and footing in ice and snow. They do take some getting used to when walking on any surface which has been cleared. For the sake of longevity, I would recommend taking them off and storing them in a plastic bag when inside or when out of snow and icy conditions. A few of the metal spirals did get caught and bent when walking on the carpeting in my office building (just to get to my desk to change them). A few of the spirals also have broken or corroded over time and are now sticking out as sharp bits (this is over one season). I'm not sure this is worth the price if I have to buy a new pair every winter, but they were so effective in harsh conditions that I would still recommend them.

Did not work on Ice
These did NOT work on the ice. I nearly broke my neck trying to walk on the ice on my deck with these on. Wore them all of 2 minutes. Ended up returning them and getting some real ice cleats. Disappointed they didnt work.

Would be good for walking, not running
I've used my Yaktrax maybe 10 times, 4 of them were when I was running. They were great at first, helped me not slip on most ice (still slick on certain surfaces), and I could run in them. But last time I ran I noticed that two of the elastic bands snapped, same band on both.I'm thinking it was caused by one or two things:I take them off my shoes almost every time since I use them on both my hiking boots and my running shoes, I'm thinking that could have given the metal spirals to shift a bit and pinch the elastic band. The last time I ran on them I would say it was clean cement 70% of the time and ice and snow the other 30%, so another possibility is the rough cement caused the elastic to fray easier. Will definitely buy heavier duty ones next time.

Great to Use
I have been more than impressed at how well this item actually works, last week I was flat on my back starring at the sky after a complete back fall, this week I put on the Yaktrax Waller and on ice, I stayed up right and no falls. I also like the fat they glow in the dark, or dark of day here In Alaska. Not sure how much wear I'll get as I haven't had them long enough to state, but so far they fit all my shoes and I'm not slipping and sliding so in my book..these are a blessing to have.

Buy the YakTrax Pros instead!
These are perfectly adequate cleats. They do a great job of keeping you from slipping and provide excellent traction. However, shortly after I bought them, one of my cleats came loose somewhere and was lost. I should've listened to all the reviewers who recommended the YakTrax Pro model; they are a much better investment because they have a strap that keeps them more firmly affixed to your shoes so they don't come loose and go flying, never to be seen again.

Good on ice, less so in snow
I got these for safe running through the New England winter. First time I took them out I definitely felt a lot more secure, and I feel much safer when its icy. Wearing them in the snow has been more mixed. On my big snow boots these tend to pop off - maybe my fault for trying to get them on such big shoes. Just have to do a check periodically in the snow to make sure they are still there - otherwise a great product.
