Acrylic Platter Upgrade for U-Turn Turntables

I knew wanted a clear "slip mat". What I didn't know is that this single hunk of acrylic would be replacing both my slipmat *and* my metal platter. This platter is heavier, and CRYSTAL CLEAR, allowing you to watch your record spin "from the inside". Looks gorgeous with any colored/clear records.The best part is the added weight/mass. This causes greater inertia, resulting in a more "confident", stable sound - and a platter which won't "slip" or slow down if you try to dry brush a record on it.

The media could not be loaded.  It was in the spring of 1997 when I first purchased my reggae planar to with glass upgrade platter for about 400 bucks at my local high-end store. That was almost 27 years ago at this point and I am a senior now but well schooled in the field of hi-fi.Back in August of 2022 I purchased my u-turn orbit green basic turntable with MDF platter for under $200 without the queuing option. Shortly thereafter I spent another 40 bucks for the slide-in snap-in queuing lever that in my estimation is the best in the business. However I regretted my selection of the MDF platter and recently decided to finally upgrade with this acrylic one that us old timers used to refer to as glass. I am glad I did! The turntable now runs smoother quieter and more stable if possible over the already most speed accurate table in my stable.The manufacturer obviously took very special care in designing this aftermarket platter which I received here on Amazon in a timely fashion well packaged and with my credit only paid about 50 bucks plus tax for the masterpiece. If I were to purchase the planner from u-turn it would cost me about three times the price so please keep that in mind. At this point I would like to dispel any rumors that you might hear or read about this particular platter causing the speed to increase. It absolutely does not and I find that the somewhat finicky you turn belt is a lot easier to deal with with this glass platter in place and I do not or see it causing the belt to stretch prematurely. I only wish I had purchased the platter much earlier as it has been a real ear opener! The sound is indeed as others say way more precise clean with fantastic timing and detail. It has been honed to perfection and the designer has taken precise VTA into account here. I used to believe in always using a platter mat whether it be rubber or felt or cork or whatever but in this case it definitely pays not to use one as the Sonic dividends are plenty. I was going to buy the Uturn product but wanted something a little more affordable. This fit the bill and does a great job. Sound has improved over my MDF platter and looks way cooler (especially with my colored vinly records). Don't worry about fitment or craftsmanship here- perfect fit and finish. It really does cut down on static too- records are simply solidly mounted and sound great.

I bought this immediately after getting my u-turn turntable and have been using it for about 3 months now. The quality is amazing and half the cost of the one uturn sells.

The platter I received did not fit my orbit turntable properly - the center hole was too large to index on the bearing, which prevented proper alignment.Replacement platter is in shipment - review will be revised if replacement resolves the issue

I purchased this platter as soon as I received my U-Turn Orbit mainly because the cost was half of the one offered by U-Turn. It makes my turntable look classy and it adds to the sound quality as well. The weight feels heavier than the MDF platter and that concerned me at first, but it functions as it should. If you are on the fence, I recommend picking it up, you won't be disappointed.

While it’s gorgeous and very clearly sounds different it’s not quite perfect. It doesn’t fit tight on the spindle and I believe it’s a touch smaller in diameter as I get a slightly higher rpm (33.34 vs 33.44) and to be honest I can’t hear that. I did get a clear acrylic mat to go on top to return the height profile being that I didn’t want to put felt on top of the acrylic.As an alternative to the 90 uturn wants for theirs I’m happy.
