great resource
The book has a lot of info so it lasts a long time in terms of being a great resource. You get insight into certain types of riffs so that when you are listening and trying to catch what's going on in a song you get a better sense of it right away. Worthwhile if you want to get into this style of playing!

Get Into the Grooves... Literally.
The authors did a great job of presenting groove samples to add to your bits bag... I'm into 70s octave patterns, period, and you get a chunk in the book. Get it, you paid more for coffee this morning. Snicker.

Modern
This is the only or one of the very few Funk manuals that actually contain some modern fresh funk, I have bought so many funk books and most of them are stuck in past, this one offers some modern stuff, on the down side I can side there are many tracks that are not so funky, but still I advice this book.

Dan’s books are a primer to learn different genres of music for bass
I’ve purchased several of Dan Hawkins’ books and if you read the titles carefully you will see that he teaches riffs, grooves, and basslines. His titles aren’t misleading he states what’s in his books on the cover. So far I’ve been completely satisfied with all the books of his I own. What you pay for these books is nothing for what you gain by reading and practicing these great excerpts from classic songs. Dan gives you the tools it’s up to you to figure out the rest of the song if you’re truly dedicated in learning the rest of the songs. I highly recommend Dan’s books you can’t go wrong.

Nice!
It's a good primer to start learning funk bass as an intermediate player. Four starts because the audio tracks were not linked to in the book and I had to reach out to the author via instagram message but he promptly responded and sent me a download link for the audio tracks.

Not exactly what I was looking for. This book is not 100 Funk Songs written out in sheet music.
I was expecting 100 songs written out note for note. That’s kinda what the title led me to believe. I was looking for a bunch of music with maybe a little text to explain stylistic nuances. Instead it is mostly text, explaining historical and technical context, with a handful of licks and exercises written out to make his points with actual musical context. And to be fair the information that is presented is helpful and well written, but it was a lot more of that than I expected.I think the title should be changed to something like “100 2-4 bar phrases that are used to try and encapsulate entire sub-genres of funk, with a lot of words to take up the rest of the 85 pages”. Or something like that. I think I’ve made my point.

Waste of time.
A waste of money! There's only snippets of songs and a list of "recommended" listening. It's songs I have listened to most of my life, I want to learn how to play them! The playlist is on Spotify. That was just a sneaky way to get you to join. Overall, rubbish.

It's Groovy!
This book is great and I bought Dan Hawkins's 100 Soul & Motown Basslines soon afterwards because I liked it so much. Each bassline is outlined in both tab and musical notation which is great whether you read music or not. Dan explains how the basslines work and that helps me to understand and remember them, and even create my own. There's lots of advice on how best to play the lines too.I downloaded the backing tracks straight onto my iphone and the Spotify playlist introduced me to funky music that I didn't even know existed!

Excellent resource
I have held off on leaving a review until I had used the book for an extended period. I think it is excellent and I think of it as a sort of toolkit. Various approaches and concepts are outlined and their practical application is well explained. I have seen one or two reviews criticising the book for not having 'full' basslines which I don't feel is entirety. I am sure there are copyright reasons why it is not possible to just transcribe a well known song but in any case the book shows you some of the hallmarks of well known players and you can then work it out for yourself. I have had a lot of fun learning the lines and my timing is much improved. Thoroughly recommended
