I’ve always been fascinated by abnormal psychology and the brain. I’ve also been interested in forensics and the procedure of how criminals are caught. I’ve seen Katherine Ramsland on television and have read her past books about Anne Rice and about vampires and like her writing style.This book gives shortish, interesting, and informative chapters about each psychopath, motivation, MO, errors, investigation, and how each was caught. Each section is broken up into different aspects of capture - examples; Mistakes on killer’s part, self-surrender, etc. It’s very interesting if you are into detection and procedures. It’s well written and not a dry, text book type of collection.

This is an excellent book for those that are interested in the history of serial killers but still want an intelligent narrative to back up the facts. Ramsland is a respected author with plenty of books under her belt; she does her research and tells it like it is. Wide ranging in her selection, she selects a variety of killers in this collection to satisfy even the most hardened veterans of the true crime genre. I enjoy reading Ramsland's perspectives on the killer and why they did what they did. Covering the US but also Mexico and England, this is an enjoyable and informative read. Ramsland is a fascinating writer and I love that her bibliography supplies me with even more authors and other books to read.

Quick overview of various notorious serial killers and how the cases were solved. Described in layman’s terms so one can easily understand and keeps you interested. Love it!

I was hoping for a little more than an overview of a number of well known serial killers. I really didn’t learn anything much I hadn’t already read about. I learned nothing about how to catch a serial killer. I already knew that many victims are selected on the basis that no one is going to look real hard for the victims. I already knew that some police departments do incredibly sloppy investigations. It was all surface information, nothing really in depth. Unfortunately I purchased another one of her books, I hope it provides more insights.

I love Katherine Ramsland’s writing style. She can take the grimmest, most shocking material and make it palatable. It combines factual details about specific killers and crimes, and informed commentary.

Written in a easy to read format.. informative above all else

Intriguing case studies. Easy to dip into whenever you feel like something dark.
