Follow Me, Boys!

Nothing Beats Original Disney Productions
When Walt was alive his company produced fine family films. This is no longer guaranteed and too much is not available on Disney Plus even after 4+ years. So, I'm preserving what I can through DVDs and higher formats."Follow Me, Boys" was a jewel in my youth and a film that should still be shown in schools. Why? Because its themes include a man (and women) sacrificing higher personal achievement to teach proper behavior and personal responsibility to boys. This used to be the type of community activity that produced a strong society. The second theme is personal, mutual responsibility among the boys for one another. Oh yah, they also saw each other's faces. The second act moves into a bit of silliness and some cutting room non sequiturs but the overall effect is joy and community pride shared in the entire town.Fred MacMurray was a Walt favorite, Lillian Gish still impressed and Kurt Russel debuts as a trouble-making teen. Show it to a youngster today and he'll thank you years from now.

A great movie for Scouts and Scouters to watch
My sone recommended this to me. He's the Scoutmaster of the local troop. I'm one of his Assistant Scoutmasters. This is a great movie about Scouting in the old days. A bit corny in a few spots. I actually never pictured Fred MacMurray as a love interest. I still picture him as My Three Sons.Am I a satisfied customer? Yes. It's worth the rental cost. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes.

Boys WILL be boys!!!!!!
A great movie that shows boys having fun being boys with a real man as their leader! Don't hesitate to buy it! So nice to see something like this compared to all of the garbage on the market now!

Call yourself a scouter? Then why haven't you seen it yet?
For every human hobby, there will eventually be made a film. For fighter pilots, there's "Top Gun." For pee-wee hockey players, there's "The Mighty Ducks." For Boy Scouts, there's "Follow Me, Boys!" Of course you can appreciate and enjoy this movie if you're not a scout or scouter, but let's not fool ourselves about the intended audience here.--This film is the epitome of old-school Boy Scouting. Every traditionalist Scouter pines for the days when the boys didn't have to be back from the campout early for soccer practice. Every new scoutmaster wants to be the square-jawed, campaign hat-wearing, all-American scoutmaster of Norman Rockwell paintings. You'll never pull it off if you haven't seen this film.In "Follow Me Boys!" Fred Macmurray goes from reluctant scoutmaster to super-scoutmaster, teaching boys to be men, year after year. His boys actually sing. They sing! What traditionalist scoutmaster hasn't given up years ago trying to get the boys to sing around the campfire or on the trail? The Scout program of "Follow me, boys!" is the antidote to the 1980's scouting movement that gave us nasty-colored patches and ball caps. It's the bridge between the scouts of today, and the scouts of 97 years ago.If you ever want to be a great scouter, see this film, and read up on Baden-Powell. Make sure your boys know what he did at Mafeking. Make sure they know that their uniforms are based on the South African Constabulary. Make sure they stand up straight when they recite the Oath and Law. Get them off the trail occasionally. Get them to sing, loud and proud. But you'll have to see "Follow me, Boys!" I don't know if it will work on the boys anymore, but it worked on me when I was a Tenderfoot.

Another wonderful example of a charming film when Walt Disney oversaw each project at his Studio
One of the very last film productions personally supervised by Walt Disney.A beautiful and truly heartwarming story with a fine dose of humor that will make you stand up and cheer to Lem Siddons ( Fred MacMurray character). NOTE TO CEO, BOB IGER:~ Will WDHE release Walt Disney's last 1966 feature film: "Follow Me Boys" on HD Blu-Ray ? This current DVD edition looks like it was taken from an 80's VHS cassette tape source ( main titles encased in a yellow frame ) that looks somewhat blurred and unclean although a better remastered source was already available when this DVD presentation was released. ( Perhaps an employee selected the wrong transfer material when the DVD presentation was put together ? )The film clips seen in the making of special feature:"Looking back with Lem's boys" shows a cleaner and slightly sharper video with a better picture aspect-ratio format centralization showing more visual image on top, bottom and sides. This fine film is long over due for a newly remastered HD Blu-Ray edition. And also consider the same treatment for a 2nd appearance of Fred MacMurray with Kurt Russell in another fine film that came almosta decade later : "Charley and the Angel".

Just Wonderful!😊
Much better than I expected.😊A heart -warming, touching and at times, thought-provoking story about a time in America when children were still allowed to be "just kids" enjoying themselves in the great outdoors, active, respectful, curious....where did things go so wrong? A time not so very long ago but what a change in values there has been since then, and mostly not in the ways of real progress.A feel good movie for the whole family that is a nice break from the reality we now live in. I grew up in the 60s as a child and this film brought back some special memories of my own childhood too.Perfect casting throughout, wonderful scenery, catchy music.....don't miss this step back in time to a simpler, special era. 😊Helpful votes are always appreciated!
