This is the secret sauce for firewire on modern windows
Let's just say that you have say an old avid mbox pro 3 interface that is firewire? You plug it into your Windows 10 or 11 computer, I don't recommend with 11 by the way, it's garbage and the system requirements are hilarious and artificial. Windows 10 will be my last version of Windows I mean it. I'm already using Linux more than I am windows but anyway let's get back to the review...We're on Windows and we've realized that running the latest driver for the mbox pro makes it crash but if you go back one version it runs great for some reason... But then you plug it into your firewire port on your computer and it crashes as soon as you try to access it. I'm talking blue screen. So what do you do? You get a FireWire card that doesn't have input power and you think that's going to work just great. You install it, you boot up, window sees it just fine, you plug in the avid, and boom as soon as you try to access it you blue screen. Now let me tell you what's wrong:Those devices run out of spec to the firewire 400 power limits. What you need is one of these cards and a molex adapter so that you can bridge off of whatever and power the card itself. The PCI slot doesn't give the card enough power to feed the avid. But once you use this card that's powered up, The habit is happy, Windows is happy, the card is happy, the drivers are happy, and now you're happy because everything's working. So if you happen to have a FireWire device like an old camera or something else that you plug into your firewire on Windows 10 or 11 and everything blows up when you try to use it, now you know why. You need a powered firewire card.So get this one well you can and if you can and be happy like me. I'm running pro tools with that interface on Windows 10 and it's awesome. Well I mean as far as pro tools goes it's awesome. The interface is great it'll work with anything, pro tools is a necessary evil for what I do.But when I run something like reaper or cubase with this interface it makes all of the trial and error I had to go through to get it all to work worth it.I hope this review helps someone and if it did please say it was helpful because it helps me help you if I get a little bit of love sometimes. Thank you.

Fire wire add in card for PC
What I liked about this board is that I did not have to install any software. Just plug it in and it was recognized by Windows. I am using this to transfer minidivi video tapes to my computer. The board worked very nicely from the get go.

Adding legacy Firewire ports made easy!
My 15+ year old Firewire interface is finicky when it comes to which chipset it likes to work with. Onboard firewire bus wasn't sufficient in the prebuilt music workstation I purchased, so adding this TI based card solved all of those issues.
