Fossil Men's Maddox Belt

The knots at the ends of the stitching threads on the leather tab/loop that holds the buckle in place are Defective / Poor.After about one week of wear, the related threads start to unravel / come loose from the weakly made end knots on BOTH sides of the tab. The unraveling results in 2 - 3 inches of stitching string hanging loose. Even if trimmed, the threads still continue to come out on both sides. This would eventually lead to a very loose buckle and probably a detachment of the buckle.I've had this same thing happen to TWO of these belts I've ordered from Amazon over a period of about 5 months. I sent the first belt back to Amazon for a refund which they granted. Waited about 5 months and reordered this same belt in hopes the issue would disappear with a newer stock. The same issue is occurring with this more recently ordered belt ( about 2 weeks ago).Excluding the consistent defective knots, the remainder of the belt is very good if not excellent. They look, feel, and work great. The quality & workmanship of the leather, its braiding, and buckle are excellent or approach that. It is very sad that a seemingly minor issue and detail of threat knots would ruin an otherwise very good product.

The Fossil "Maddox" belt is made of thicker and heavier weight leather strips than most similar woven belts. This makes for a stronger and longer lasting belt that looks, feels and smells nice. The only "down-side" is that the thicker leather strips mean the openings for the buckle tang are small and very tight. It takes some care to line the tang up correctly and to fasten the buckle which can slow down the process of fastening the belt. If you don't line the tang up correctly with the center of the tight openings, you risk damaging the leather strips. The tiny "tang openings" of this belt are quite different (much smaller) then the large holes in the Fossil "Myles" belts or the common Dockers belts which are easy & quicker to fasten, but don't last as long because of the thinner, poorer-quality leather.I have both the black and polished dark brown versions of this belt. Both fit as expected and both are extremely comfortable once fastened. The brown belt has a gold-colored buckle and is a deep dark "mahogany" color. It looks great on khaki colored pants. The black belt is a deep, rich black, and not overly shiny with a silver-colored buckle. I would have preferred a gold buckle choice for the black belt, but that is not offered. The belts actually measure 1-3/16 inches wide (30 mm) and the buckles are fairly heavy and are 1.70 inches wide (43.2 mm)Bottom Line: Sturdy, comfortable, handsome belt, but be careful when fastening the buckle.

There are a lot of braided leather belts in the world, and frankly most of them are garbage. Almost every one I've had, no matter the brand, has eventually torn right down the center of the belt as the tongue from the buckle wears through the leather near the holes you thread it through. I assume that's because they're all made of the same cheap material in the same factory somewhere overseas.This Fossil brand belt is the only exception I've found. The leather is noticeably thicker and sturdier than any other braided belt I've seen, and after almost two years of daily wear it shows no signs of weakening or wear. If you're in the market for a braided leather belt, this is the only brand you should even consider.

This "leather" belt is leather and bonded leather...not 100% leather. It smells horrible. Kind of a musty, mildew, chemical smell. My husband can't even wear it yet, we have it outside trying to "air" it out.I bought this to replace the exact same belt we had purchased in a store. That belt smelled like leather...nothing like this one. Makes me wonder if it's authentic.Would not recommend and will not purchase another from Amazon.

Ths belt must have been stored for a year in a dirty sock bin that was soaked with water so that it grew mold. I have soaked the belt in water with a bit of bleach and dried it in the sun. Helped a tad but it still stinks so bad I have to keep it on the patio because it stinks up my closet AND the master bath. Hoping the smell eventually goes away. One month so far and it is still unwearable. This is a nice looking belt. Too bad is it is only usable a patio decor.

Bought this belt about six months ago and the braiding has already broken. while the belt is listed as "100% Leather", the item itself is tagged as 50% Leather and 50% Bonded Leather. If you check "bonded leather" on the internet you'll find "Bonded leather is made by shredding leather scraps and leather fiber, then mixing it with bonding materials". Not quite 100% leather after all... At $35, I'd say that was an expensive lesson in "false advertising". Think twice before ordering this...

This could so easily be a good belt. But poor quality assurance leads it to completely fail. On mine, the stitching holding the two braids of leather together has failed and so the belt no longer functions as a belt.

This belt is 3 months old and is no longer usable because the holes where the belt buckle sets the size have torn through in about three or four successive places. I can no longer properly secure the belt to the size I want. Prior to buying the belt, I saw reviews mentioning this problem, but I chose not to pay attention to those as an earlier version from this company lasted a reasonable period of time. I would now strongly recommend that you look for another supplier if you want this type of belt. Otherwise, you are in for a predictable disappointment.

Love it. Looks good, feels good. Can't beat that combination.
