The Novello Book Of British Folksongs For Mixed-Voice Choirs: With an Introduction by Jeremy Summerly

Not the book expected
Perhaps I was expecting the wrong thing from this book. I had in mind woodsmoke-filled hostelries with rustic and rumbustious songs of rural life. This book is rather more tame than this, more suited to the genteel singing of a ladies' choir or a school choir, harking back to the 1950s and 60s.The arrangements are well done, but don't quicken the pulse the way an accordion, fiddle and supplies of cider would do. Chacun a son gout, I suppose, with the gout brought on by the scrumy supplies.
