Lovely kettle
Updated 4 months after purchase: I've had to return the kettle as the auto shut off stopped working, meaning the kettle would just keep bringing itself back to boil over and over again until you manually switched it off. I've asked for a refund instead of a replacement and will be buying a different kettle instead now. The design really is poor. It's still beautiful to look at, and if looks are what matters most to you, you will be happy with it I think.Original review: I really like this kettle overall.PROs: The soft touch material the body is made from is pleasant to touch and to look at. The navy is true and vibrant. The rose-gold handle contrasts very nicely with it. It is very fast to boil and stays warm for a good length of time. Pours beautifully without any drips. Light to hold when unfilled. Easy to pick up and comfortable to hold when pouring.CONs: The lid. The lid is not a flip-up, you lift it right off the kettle. Though the central grip is heat resistant, the rest of the lid is not, and your hand and wrist are directly above the opening. This means that if you have used a full kettle of boiling water and then wish to boil another kettle full, you do end up touching hot bits of the lid unless you are very careful and you will get the steam coming out toward your hand. Also as you lift it off you sometimes get a few bits of water splashing out (tiny droplets, but very hot) as the lid releases. There is also one ugly bit of joining, where the handle meets the body. Oddly the join is covered by clear plastic, so you can see the glue. It's very minor though, and only visible up close.Anticlimax: Not a pro or con, but the advertised window so you can see the water boil is nothing of the sort. It's simply a water measure and having used this kettle more than 50 times now, I can safely say you cannot observe any boiling of the water in that column window until the very last second before it switches off. Not sure why this is listed as a feature!Overall, a really lovely kettle that looks gorgeous and boils quickly, but check you won't be inconvenienced by the lid being lift-away rather than flip-up.

Great --- But.
Bought this kettle as a match to my Salter toaster. All was fine until the kettle handle started to peel leaving a very sharp edge. I contacted Salter to request a replacement handle but was told that they do not supply separate handles, however if I could provide a receipt they would replace the whole kettle.Amazon don't give receipts for purchases and as Salter had ceased production of that particular kettle Amazon were no longer selling it.This meant that I could not get an exact price. Thus Salter would not replace my kettle. It was only 7 months old.And all I wanted was a lid.

Not fit for purpose.
This kettle broke within a few weeks and began turning itself on and off randomly. It is unsafe. Disappointingly I cannot seem to get my money back.

Paying for style not functionality
I think I’ve paid for style rather than functionality with this kettle. It looks so lovely however it is pretty noisy when boiling. The lid must be pulled off rather than operated with a release button. It becomes too hot to touch so you can’t immediately refill. It’s not the worst but for the price I’d expect better features. My old kettle was a third of the price and was much better!

leaked and flaky paint
Within days the chrome effect had peeled off the lid. After a few months the kettle started to leak from the handle onto the switch below and could no longer be used.

Not Good Very Disappointed in a Salter Product
I am reviewing on behalf of my elderly parents I bought a Salter Navy kettle for them from Amazon on October 9th 2020. Not cheap either. I have in the past been very happy with Salter products but when i dropped their shopping off, i noticed the kettle was badly flaking and braking. They did not want to tell me as it was a gift from me. Then they also admitted the damage had cut my fathers hand. This is not good and could have caused even more damage. I am not impressed at all. I am returning the kettle immediately.
