ScalaClassico Men's Crushable Felt Outback Hat

The media could not be loaded. I have several hats and a lot of them are Bailey, a couple Stetsons and I needed an everyday hat that will take the wear and tear of work, I n and out of the truck and the weather. This hat has seen it all, the rain, being crushed, sat on, dropped, spilled on and the likes. It held up to it all and retained its shape and come right back to the original way it was. The color is really nice it's a good thick felt material and not cheap at all it came with feathers I took my feathers out. This hat has a leather accent band around it which is very nice and thick. The fit is true to size so measure your head with a tape measure and order correctly I put a couple of pieces of the foam that the hat came in, cut into strips and placed them inside the band to give thr hata tight fit to hold during the windy days. Hope this helps and if you get this hat, I'm sure you'll enjoy it For the price you just can't beat it for everyday wear or something that you want to grab and go out the door in a hurry but still looks good enough to go out in y'all have a great day. 😉

I had a nice fedora, but it's disappeared on me. Not sure if I lost it, or it was lost in my divorce. So, after looking for a nice replacement, I found this Scala one.I bought the XXL for my oversized noggin. Many hats are frequently too small for me. But this was surprisingly a bit large on me. But too large is better than too small. Too small can't be fixed, but too large can. I bought some hat size reducer foam (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8YT6DYS) and now it fits perfectly.Construction is a very nice and high quality wool felt. I removed the feather. Shape seems to hold up to crushing. I received some compliments the first time I wore it.This hat isn't cheap, but it's cheaper than many of its competitors, making it a good value. I'm extremely happy with this.

but this hat has changed me into one. Due to a steady abandonment of my hair from my head, I discovered that cold air is now tingling my scalp. "Sooner or later," I thought, "I'm gonna have to get a hat." Not being a big fan of baseball caps, I considered the flat cap but didn't like the looks. The cowboy hat was just too limited on where I could wear it without looking like a dork. So, I started looking at hats when I happened to see them in stores but didn't go out of my way searching.While browsing in a local department store while my wife was Christmas shopping I ran across this hat. It felt great, fit perfectly, looked good on me and was a good color! I also LOVED the fact that it was crushable and would pop right back out to normal and was nearly waterproof! What was NOT to like was the price! In the store this hat was $90! WOW! For me that was too much for a first hat!! "I can beat that on Amazon," I told myself.I jotted down the brand name, the model and size (L) and placed the order when I got home. A few days later, my prize arrived and at a SIGNIFICANT savings!! Unfortunately my bargain was too large! It dropped to my ears and would not stay on my head. I was Soooo disappointed!Now the debate was . . . which one was wrong? The one in the department store or the one from Amazon? I took a gamble and sent back the Amazon model (the only one at the department store one was sold) and reordered a medium. I was disappointed to discover that for an unexplained reason, the medium was nearly $10 MORE than a large ?????Bottom line, the medium arrived and it fit great! I love the hat! My head stays warm, it sheds water and I've gotten lots of compliments on its looks. It is appropriate in most venues and has a classic look without being pretentious.The journey was a bit frustrating but it was well worth it!

The hat was a bit (a bit?) large. My head measures 22". Their measurements are: Small, 21 1/8 - 21 1/2; Medium 21 7/8 - 22 1/4. So I ordered a medium. It arrived looking really nice, but felt so loose that it could fall off my head if I bent over. I thought maybe they sent the wrong size. Nope, the hat said medium. I was going to return it and order a small, but they included sizing tape which, when inserted under the band, gives it a proper fit. The little foam strips have a very sticky backing so place them carefully. My one concern is whether the strips will maintain their thickness and spring. Would I have been better off going with a small and letting it stretch it to fit my head? Time will tell.Update. I never found out if the sizing strips lasted, because someone else walked off with that hat. I did, however re-order a replacement, same size (medium), different shade of brown. Two things: this hat fits more snugly and did not require the sizing strips, and the new hat is not quite as tall as the first hat. Are different manufacturers making these?

Love my first hat from them. Second hat was a little funky, soft spot behind my head. Returned it quick and easy. Got a perfect hat in return! Lots of compliments! Really nice, well made hats!

I enjoy this hat. It wears comfortably and the feather in the decorative band is a classic style. I get lots of compliments and questions about where to get one. I wear hats regularly and this has become a favorite.

Well made great fit, love it

This is a nice hat at a reasonable price. It looks as though it will dress up or dress down, at home around town as much as out in the woods or on a trout stream. It holds its shape well and can be "crushed" to fit into your duffle or suitcase without looking like it had been run over. This will be my "go-to" hat for most every occasion.

First off let me say this is a great hat and I would absolutely buy another one. Don't hesitate to buy one. I got the Chocolate color in medium. I will list pros and cons. Dont get turned off by the cons. They arent dealbreakers for me. They are just little things that would make the hat better for its price.Pros:1. Truly crushable. Over time it would damage it if it was just totally abused. But if it gets crushed it will not get damaged easily. It is also water resistant and has held up in rain just fine. It isnt as heavy as some other felt hats in this style out there but it should hold up no problem.2. Fits great. I am usually a size 57- 58 medium. I usually fit most brands medium. Scala/Dorfman Pacific say I am between M leaning to Large by their charts. But i trusted the reviews that said they size larger. I stuck with medium and it fit just right, didnt need to add sizing tape or anything.3. Looks great! Holds its shape well. Looks like a high quality hat. Very sharp. This type of outback fedora will never go out of style, its a timeless look. Mine was crafted beautifully and looks as good or better than the photos.Cons (and theyre minor, not deal breakers)1. Crown is a little short for me. Would be nice if it har a half inch extra height.2. No chinstrap, but I would expect one at this price. The hat is lighter in weight than other felt/wool hats i have and is at risk of being lost to the wind. Luckily this is an easy fix. Drill a hole, install an antique eyelet on each side using a grommet tool. Purchase a chinstrap and install. Could be done in just a few minutes - which is a modification I will do very soon to this one.3. The outside hatband. At this price of over $150 I would expect real leather or at least better stitching as the band rides up a little at the front and back. My personal taste is that a lighter color might have looked better with the chocolate brown hat or maybe a slightly wider band. Not a huge deal as it still looks really great.4. Brim is non adjustable. Not a big deal at all, just would prefer if it was adjustable. The hat still holds a great shape and looks amazing and is functional.5. No crown ventilation. One thing with these wool and felt hats is that in hot weather they can really get hot. Luckily if you have a hand drill and some 4mm antique eyelets you can easily add a few ventilation holes in just a couple of minutes if you felt the need. I may make this modification to this hat.6. Price. For what it is, its expensive compared to other hats of similar or better quality. Its probably closer in quality to a $80-100 hat than a $150 hat. You can get the same exact type of hat by bellmora or silver canyon for $80-100 on amazon, so I dont think these dorfman pacific scala classico ones should be priced so much higher for an item that is basically interchangeable. So if you can find it for lesser price, it would be more appropriate in my opinion. Still a great hat. The cons are the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. If it didnt have the little issues at this price it would get 5 stars. If it were cheaper and as is, it would also get 5 stars.

Magnifico

Arrived in great condition, boxed. Beauty hat, nicely made and fits very well. I have a largish head, and wasn't sure it would fit or not - like a glove! Colour is nice and solid, material soft to the touch. Great out and about hat - fends off the rains and snow nicely and keeps the noggin warmer by far than going commando.
