Quality remote - what else are you to expect from OEM. I like it way better than the 2015 skinny remote. My favorite feature, is the auto button illumination - a sensor senses when you grab the remote, and turns-on a bit of soft backlighting for the buttons - great for night-time. The other likes: it's triangular-shaped - hence easier to grasp. Uses regular AAA batteries - verses the dangerous button type. Some what a challenge to get paired ( on "my" experience ) as the auto-method didn't work 1st time around. So I had to do it with the alternative manual Bluetooth method using a mouse USB to the ShieldTV - but that worked, and we're happy now!

When I received this remote. I was going to wait a couple of months before I wrote a review because it has lighted buttons, And I figured that I would be lucky to get two weeks use out of the batteries so I installed a couple of Eneloop rechargeables just in case. Well, it's now been over 5 months and the battery indicator on the Shield TV box still says that they have over 60% charge left in them. Wow! the last 3 remotes that I had would only go a max. of 2 months on a charge, some less. I've tried other remotes and sent them all back because they were junk but this one is REAL quality! The buttons are lighted and have a solid but silent feel to them and the remote is RF so it will work in any position. Con's: The Netflix button does get in the way at times but... If you load the "Button Mapper" app from the Google Play store you can reprogram this button as well as others to do better things (or nothing at all). I reprogrammed the menu button so that a long click will mute the sound (This remote does not have a dedicated mute button). So now it's all good and is my favorite remote of all time. I thought the triangular shape might be a problem but it is not, just roll it on it's side for the other person to share it. Also, to change the batteries, all you have to do is press your fingernail in the release button on the top rear and slide the remote about 1/4 of an inch to release the battery cover. It's a little stiff at first but easily opens after that.

This is a fantastic replacement remote for older and newer Shields. Very solid. Uses standard size batteries, so no more running out of charge with the original slim remote. The higher quality rechargable Eneloop type batteries work great and make it easy to stay in business without throwing batteries away after one use. The back lighting is great and the remote illuminates when it is jostled. This is a nice feature if you're looking for it in a drawer among other items. This remote has more functions than the original slim remote, which is nice (fast forward, rewind and Netflix). The shape is good. Sightly awkward, but not enough to really complain about. The solid build quality is a huge plus. It's honestly a sharp remote design. Simple, but modern. The high build quality is obvious once you pick it up. THE ONLY HICCUP for me was that the remote did not want to pair out of the box. I went through all of the manual guidelines and also looked at some things online. No luck. Finally, I came back to Amazon and looked through the reviews. Another reviewer here provided the brilliant suggestion of resetting the remote -- holding down specific buttons while inserting batteries --which worked PERFECTLY! A big thanks to that reviewer! I was getting ready to send it back when I found their suggestion. Once I reset the remote, all of the things that weren't happening on the screen in earlier setup attempts were now working. Pairing took maybe 20 seconds. This replacement remote was well worth the price once I got it paired. It's a high quality, solid piece of equipment that feels like it will last a long time. Add to that the great functionality, and you've got a pretty fantastic little piece of tech that will elevate your Shield experience.

Anyone who has a 2017 Shield or older, you owe yourself to pick one of these up! It is so much of an improvement over the god awful original remote these units came it’s almost comical. PROS: - Takes common batteries that can be found anywhere - The buttons light up when you pick the remote up (and the brightness can be adjusted in the settings menu) - “Wakes up” immediately when you pick it up unlike the original. One of the most frustrating things with the original remote (if you ever used it you know what I’m talking about). Works all the time every time! - Seems to have much better range! Again unlike the original that didn’t reliably connect to the device more than 6 feet away. Not the case with this new one! Works from one end of the room to the other without an issues - Has pretty much all the buttons one would need to comfortably take control of whatever you have playing on the TV! The original tried to go with a clean “less is more” approach to its design but ultimately just felt like “less” instead of “more” - Voice controls seem to work much better this time around. Although I honestly don’t use this feature that often but when I did seemed to pick up what I was saying much better than the original. CONS: - The only REAL con I can think of with this remote is the introduction of a dedicated NETFLIX button. It’s nice to have but I find myself using other streaming options just as much if not more than Netflix these days.....I would’ve liked to have seen this be a programmable button that I could set it to what I choose instead. All in all, this is a great upgrade to anyone who’s been stuck using the original. Should have got this sooner, Highly recommended!!

I bought this remote to replace the original remote for my 2017 Nvidia Shield TV Pro. The added features of Pause/Play and Quick Menu buttons are alone worth the cost. The fact that it uses AAA batteries instead of CR2032 batteries is a big plus also. The triangular shape of the remote actually feels pretty good in the hand and makes one handed use fairly easy. There are settings in the Shield itself to change the backlight brightness and function, along with the duration. These settings make it easy to customize for your preference, and I particularly like that I can set it to light up when I pick it up. The remote feels high quality and is fast to respond to button presses. My biggest complaint is the dedicated Netflix button. Not only is it rare that I want Netflix as my first source option, but I find myself occasionally hitting the button accidentally, requiring me to login to Netflix and then go through the process of scrolling to the Exit option. I may have to take the remote apart and disable the switch mechanically as I find this extremely annoying.

Much better than the original remote that died. This new design is great and uses AA or AA batteries, I forget. The old USB charged one died almost immediately and had to be charged daily. Heck that thing. The only way this could be imrpoved is if they got rid of the huge netflix button. I hit it by mistake all the time and I don't have netflix.

Big difference in quality from this and third party garbage that costs $10 less. Connected immediately to my Nvidia Shield and works. Nice heavy quality build. This just looks and feels high quality. Strangely enough the remote that came with my shield years ago magically healed itself 4 days after it quit and the day this remote was due to be delivered. Am keeping this one just in case and so I don't spend another 4 days using my phone app to control my TV and shield while waiting on Amazon to deliver my order. You know when you place an order and are given a delivery date.? Yeah, don't believe it. Amazon is just making that up and does a bait and switch on when it shows up.

Bough it for a Shield Pro and the remote works perfectly well. Seems to be an original Nvidia product.
