A Concise History of France (Cambridge Concise Histories) 3rd Edition

Great book.

I've read a number of history books about various countries in this Cambridge Concise Histories series. This is the most difficult to get through. I've put it down and picked it back up (trying to get myself to finish it) a number of times. Roger Price, the author, simply doesn't write in a manner that flows. That's it in a nutshell.Instead, try the histories of: Finland, Russia, or Switzerland, in the Cambridge Concise Histories series. Unlike this book, they are an enjoyable read.

Lots of information is this book, but it is not organized such that I can get at it. would be better for me if events were time-lined as an outline for the reading to come. The author seems opposed to bulleting, everything related in pure prose that I found difficult to follow. The whole book seems more of a head dump than an attempt to inform.

Great general purpose history book. Makes for a good starting point for further study.

This is an excellent survey; easy to read and I found it insightful. As someone well versed in British history and European history through British eyes the details of French history are fascinating. I understand better why it took centuries to become "France."

Mainly 19th to present. Misleading title.
