Official GRE Verbal Reasoning Practice Questions

Good practice question book for GRE verbal section. Not a lot of explanation of concepts behind questions is included in the book, but definitely useful if you already have some intuition as to verbal reasoning q's and so are just looking for a book for further refinement of verbal/reading skills. If you're looking for pure vocab memorization help though, should probs look elsewhere (maybe the manhattan vocab thingy)Took the gre in december and scored 95th % in verbal section, but i'd be hesitant to chalk it up to usage of this book.. idk, maybe got like a 10% boost off of cramming in a week

This review book is amazing, since it's made by the test makers of the GRE the questions accurately reflect the questions on the the GRE General Revised Test. Similarly, the test makers explain the scoring of the exam: ranges from 130 to 170 for both the math & verbal, with a score of 1 to 6 for the essay. Anyways, I used this practice book for a GRE prep course in which we used both this book along with the quantitative one by ETS along with Barron's 6 GRE Practice Tests. In the course we practiced timing for each of the sections on the test. Similarly, from the ETS website I downloaded the practice test software to get comfortable taking the practice tests online. The textbook came well within the expected delivery time and as described, as a new book. So if you are someone who wants the best materials for studying for the GRE take advantage of these books: Official GRE Verbal Reasoning Practice Questions & Official GRE Quanitative Reasoning Practice Questions. These books are the best since they are made by the test makers of the GRE, additionally remember one of the verbal reasoning sections (where you identify synonyms) requires two answers however the computer lets you choose more than three without alerting you to this number. This is a must for all those taking the GRE, even if you were part of a prep course I would suggest buying both the verbal and quantitative books to time yourself while taking the practice questions. Definitely use these books for preparation of your own. Anyways, I can't stress the importance of these books enough for those preparing for the GRE, just buy these books for your preparation.

This is absolutely the best resource you can buy for the GRE (along with the quantitative reasoning companion book). The questions are written by the same people as those who write the test so the level is perfect. There are explanations and the format makes it very easy to use. I used these books in conjunction with a few free apps like magoosh vocabulary builder and I did decently well (163 on both). I worked through all questions in both books over a period of 3 weeks or so.

The verbal format and difficulty levels (ranked into easy, medium and hard, then 3 mix tests) are exactly like the GRE. But just as expected, they left the essay recommendations vague, what you really want from this book for the essay part is the examples, then you know what they are looking for in the essay.

This review applies to the Kindle edition.Overall, this was a helpful tool for practicing for the exam. Unfortunately, the Kindle edition had a number of errors in it, which made this less useful as a tool. For example, one of the practice questions states the following - and I quote -"When the normally (1) ______ film director was interviewed, it was only the her flow of words. Her (3) on topic of her next movie that (2) _____ that subject suggested it was an unwelcome one." Good luck filling in those blanks.In another place, where C was clearly the correct answer, the answer key listed the correct answer as 'B,' but in the explanation it stated that 'A, B, D, and E' can be ruled out.There are two problems with this. First, there really aren't that many questions in this book: every question that is broken takes away from the value of the book. Secondly, if you're trying to practice for the exam, training yourself to second-guess the exam questions ("Is this supposed to say...?") is counter-productive.I got some use out of this, but just a quick review of the Kindle edition by someone at ETS could have made this more useful.

Don't buy this book from Amazon. The quality of kindle book was not good. Many words were missing on the edge of each page. Very difficult to read. But this book is awesome for GRE preparation.

ETS rarely releases questions. This edition is one among those. What a fantastic treat for tutors of GRE !!!! I have already started teaching using this new book.With the Text completion questions and Reading comprehension questions, the test taker now get the full clarity what he can expect in the real GRE test !! The compendium on AWA is also awesome. I highly recommend this book for test takers of GRE.We eagerly look for advanced volumes in the proposed series.

El libro bien, todo dentro de lo esperado. Aquí el problema fue el retraso en el envío. Fue casi de un mes, además que llegó con la punta de la portada ligeramente doblada; si hubiera sido un cómic o algún libro para regalar o un libro de ornamenta, me habrían salido ronchas por el imperfecto.

It's a great preparation - it gives you thorough explanation to each answer. I would say it could have some more exercise but once combined with the standard GRE textbook (with the CD) it does its work.

Its a short book, even then it familiarizes you with actual gre format and difficulty.
