Big hit for the young TMNT fans
This book is a summary of the mini-movie that came out on Nickelodeon in November 2015 - which tells the story of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles accidentally going back in time and befriending some dinosaurs to fight the Triceraton villains and fix their time-machine to return home. The turtles in this book and mini-movie are the Half-Shell Hero variety - the younger toddler-focused variation of the popular heroes. They are similar to the characters in the 2k12 series that is currently airing in its 4th season, but the turtles are made to look slightly younger than the usual teenage variation. As one reviewer stated, the plot is simplified a bit to fit the episode worth of action into one book, but honestly, even then it's a bit of a long read for bedtime and I sometimes skim through the less important parts as it is - and it's still plenty enjoyable for the kids. The art is adorable and playful and the story is fun. My 4 and 7 year old turtle fans love reading/listening about the show they love so much. (This is not at a level for young-readers to read, the sentences are long and have difficult words, it's more a read-aloud type book)I should have realized by the name and product description, but this is a 'Big Golden book' as opposed to the 'Little Golden Books' and is larger than most of the Golden Books we have in our collection. There's nothing wrong with that, but pointing it out for people that might have expected the smaller size.Overall this is a great book and perfect for the TMNT fans in your household!

Kinda bitey...
My 3 year old divides his obsessions evenly between the Ninja Turtles, Batman and Jake (Neverland Pirates). This book is a perfect complement to the movie. Love the art style that is carried over perfectly from the short movie. They NEED to make more of the cartoon!

great and well made tie in
Realm well made, can take a licking from a 3 year old, and does a good job of retelling the story from the movie (so you don't have to worry about a little one correcting you!)

Blast to read
Fun story, has most of the detail of the short movie that it is based on. Could use a little more detail as this is for the 5-7 age range.

Ninja Turtles for young and old!
As a long standing Ninja Turtle fan, I've always held back from introducing it to my two and a half year old for fear of the more adult themes scaring him. But finally I can actually say that Half Shell Heroes, created for a younger audience, is absolutely perfect for him. Having repetitively watched the televised version (myself first purely for research purposes then my toddler) this book is a wonderful companion to run alongside it. Also let's face it, who doesn't like cute looking turtles riding dinosaurs. The story is a little rushed considering the amount of content needed to fit into the book to keep a toddler's attention but the pictures are beautiful bright and appealing. The book itself is a nice size with a strong binding, easy to hold. I must admit I have cast a cursory glance through it several times and know my toddler will enjoy having the story read to him once the man in red comes to visit.
