Columbia Men's Birkie Trail

I'm on my fifth or sixth pair of these. I can't find them in stores anymore so I'm purchasing them online. I probably should find a new favorite shoe as these will some day be out of style. But these fit me perfectly and I can wear them all day. These work for me walking, jogging, hiking, standing, working and just about what ever else I can throw at them. With the color - they always look "clean". I've used them in the mud when offroading in my Jeep and they offer good traction (they offer no protection for keeping feet dry however). The construction of the Birkie is very durable - I use one pair as my "nice" shoe and get about a year or so out of them. I them downgrade them to my outside/Jeep shoes that I wear when working on the yard or something of that nature. I can get about 3 years of use out of them before I have to toss them. I have only had one pair out of five fail after a couple years of hard use. Usually they get so filthy and muddy and that is when I dispose of them. I keep a new pair or two on hand so when its time to "get new shoes" I have some in the closet ready to go.These may not be for everyone, but I will keep buying them as long as I can find them.

This is my third pair. I bought my first pair many years ago, and still haven't thrown them out, as they are still my "dirty work" shoes. -granted they are finally getting worn out, and will soon have to go. My second pair are now my current everyday shoes, and this third pair is "in reserve."I think it should be fairly obvious that what works good for one person may not work well for another. As a senior citizen (and for many years now) I have found it rather challenging to find a pair of shoes that my feet approve of. My first pair of these Columbia Mens Birkie Trail worked GREAT, so I have stuck with this particular make and model.Personally I have found the quality and durability is just fine. I hope your experience with this shoe will be as good as mine.

I bought these to replace the earlier Columbia version of these I bought 15 years ago. I used the old pair with a set of Dirty Girl Gators to hike around the Rockies for two weeks with a 65 pound pack - that is relevant because the bottom soles did not flatten with the weight. Before that hike I replaced the insoles with a $20 set I got from Amazon or Sierra Trading Post. I was the only one who did not get blisters (also used merino wool and wicking socks). I put those soles in the new pair, and wow, I don't even notice my plantar fasciitis. I actually wear these from early morning to late at night because of that. Awesome shoe. Rugged but stylish enough I can get away wearing these at the office. I know I can wear these anywhere and adding the gators to keep pebbles out, these are also a fantastic hiking shoe.

Solid shoe which served me well for years. Still good as new. Kept my feet warm and dry for many winter walks. I have been very happy with it until last week. On Friday December 30Th 2016 it was a rainy day in Istanbul and I was busy for the New Year's day dinner shopping and something I had been concerned for years happened ! This shoe has a good looking vibram sole BUT it has always been dangerously slippery on wet ceramic surfaces ! I was always aware of it and tried to use this shoe on dry days and avoid smooth surfaces. On the said day I slipped and fell on my left ribs. It was terrible. I couldn't breathe for a full minute and the pain was incredible. Had to go to the ER, paid four times the worth of the shoe for a tomographic scan. Luckily the was no fractures in my ribs but the New Year dinner was a very painful experience and had to spend 3 days in bed in extreme pain. What a way to welcome the New Year !Thank you very much Columbia for a very comfortable and strong shoe and shame on you for such a lousy slippery sole which ruined my family dinner !ps: the sole looks BRAND NEW with very very minor wear. Thus, the shoe is sturdy and strong BUT very dangerous in wet weather on smooth surfaces.

Actually giving 5 stars in advance of successful heavy use. I've only had them for a couple of weeks. But I walk on trails a lot and these shoes are very comfortable... just like other Columbia shoes similar to these have done in the past. What I've always liked about Columbia shoes is the fit and the long wear I get out of them. I'm about 60 years old and slim, around 155 lbs, so I don't put a lot of weight on my feet/shoes. But shoes from other manufacturers have always worn out much sooner than Columbia's shoes.

Well made shoe only ones my husband will wear.

Fit well, outside of shoe is durable, confortable and breathable. Inside lining tears on the heel after a several months, but this seems to happen with all shoes any more. What's the trick to keeping the laces tied? No matter how tight I tie, they come untied often. I've tried getting the laces wet after tieing but it doesn't help.

I have owned these boots for several years and they are stylish and comfortable. They are comfortable because they are light weight and the soul isn't stiff. The fit is excellent. These boots are not waterproof so your feet will get wet in snow or rainy conditions. A very well made boot.
