Mako the Shark leads to happy dog, happy family
Our dog loves Mako the Shark. Our kids love Mako the Shark. Mako has so much personality that we always call him by his name. If we get out Mako, the dog gets alert and upright, and starts tracking him until she has a chance to tooth-wrestle. This was really a great purchase. The best dog toy we have. It keeps our dog busy for long stretches of time, and leads to great interactive person-to-dog indoor fun for long stretches of time. The reason I give 4 stars is that within a week of playing, stitching came loose around the corner of Mako's mouth and the top of his tail fin. The stitching seems tight in general, and the fabric is very durable, but since this is a toy meant for dogs to really "go after," maybe the stitching needs to be even stronger? A little reinforcement around the corners of the mouth, especially. Our dog is a Coton--just 12 pounds--but she does have sharp teeth and luuuuuvs to chew things. I stitched the openings closed myself by hand. The company that makes Mako said they read all the reviews, so I will add that the other thing we would like, is a little more padding under the bottom lip/jaw. We can still feel our dog's teeth through that quite a bit--though not enough to hurt.In spite of these comments about possible improvements, I will say again that Mako was a GREAT purchase. If you are considering it, do buy it. You and your dog will be happier!

Waste of money, not a durable toy, never again...
We bought this along with 3 other stuffed dogs toys for our 7 month old minature dachshund. Spent a lot more than I would've liked because this was suppose to be "durable for aggressive chewers" and I'm always willing to spend a little more for something that will last more than a few weeks before the stuffing starts flying. Well we gave our puppy his new toys (to distract him while we threw out some old favorites) and within 15 minutes he had torn this one apart. He was playing with all of them but some how this one that was suppose to outlast the others started to fall apart. The toy does come with a warning the the pocket handle on the bottom is a weak spot, but our dog had no problem chewing right through all the fin tips within those first few mintutes. (See 1st picture). And now not even three days later the mouth is torn through and he was able to get the squeaker out. (See 2nd picture)This is a tiny 10-lb dog who can play rough with his toys, but still has several that have lasted the five months we've had him and have spent far less money on. Not to mention that he's never chewed through or destroyed anything that was stuffed, so I wouldn't say he's an "aggressive" chewer compared to other dogs I've had and known. So I couldn't imagine how quickly a true aggressive chewer would destroy this. I never take the time to review anything, but the fact that I fought my boyfriend to spend the extra money on this with the rationalization that it would last, and then watching it fall apart in a matter of mintutes really annoyed me.Waste of money. Clearly not made as durable as claimed. Would never buy again.

Be realistic in your expectations! Tough toy not indestructible.
1st This toy is a puppet. Your hand goes in it. It's not made out of Kevlar, or some super material, it's just heavier and tougher than most material toys.2ndIf your domesticated wolf has killer instincts; then yes this toy will be its next victim. The poor reviews reflect poor pet ownership, you should know your dogs limits. Some dogs have a switch that will not turn off until they have killed the squeeky or drained the toy of white nylon organs. Dogs can tear the fur off of rabbits , it's the owners responsibility to temper that instinct, and if you can't, remove the dog from the situation or environment. 5 to 20 minutes until total destruction sounds right for some dogs, but what were the owners expecting? Choose your toys wisely, maybe try reaching you pet to only chew on antlers, hoof, or horn and have supervised play with your puppet.3rdThere are no bad pets, just bad pet owners. Take the time to know your dog and use your human brain to teach your dog how and when to play with certain toys. This toy is not the end all be all dog toy, it a tough puppet that I put my hand in while my dog tries to kill it.

Well constructed, but not for as aggressive chewers as indicated..
My fiancé got this for our 4 month old puppy (cane corso) since it was supposed to be relatively tough, maybe it would be better for less of a bite. It did seem very well constructed for the price, and our pup did love it. He's very intrigued by extremities and made sure to tear off all the fins first. We thought it would hold up better but he managed to start tearing out the stuffing and squeaker within a week. (No, he was not unsupervised with it, and he didn't get to play with it for very long periods of time before I put it up)The Kong stuffed animals have held up better against him, and of course the non-squeaky nylabone.

Adorably silly toy for dogs and their humans!
My Golden Retriever loves this toy! It's very durable and will likely last a long time with most "normal" dogs. My girl, on the other hand, is not a normal dog. In fact, I think she might be part bear. She has a super strong bite and will yank this toy away from me if I'm not using both hands to hold on (one inside the toy and the other holding the toy's tail). The down side to that is she sinks her teeth in and pulls, which has already torn the fabric a little bit. However, don't let that discourage you from trying this toy out with your pup! It's silly and lots of fun. The only suggestion I have for the folks at Pet Pals is to increase the arm coverage on the underside of the toy where you insert your hand. My dog loves to use her paws to grab my arm, and also a few times she accidentally nipped my arm thinking it was the shark. I told you she plays rough! :)

Anothe One Bites The Dust!
Well...it took our lab just over an hour to start pulling the stuffing out of this toy! We had read great reviews from others that the toy lasted a long time, and I believe it because our lab destroys most toys in about 10 minutes. The Achilles heel of this toy is the pocket in the belly that allows you to use the toy like a puppet; there's thinner nylon material in that area and that's how the toy was disemboweled! I'm glad it is survives the treatment from most dogs...but I'm still searching for the toy that can survive our lab!
