Fifty Catholic Churches to See Before You Die

Marvellous read
This is a great book, not just for Catholics but for anyone appreciative of architecture, culture and history.Curti has gone some way to give a succinct account of the history of the Catholic Church in the U.K., adding vital context, so to has she included a useful glossary and details of notable architects. The selection is very good in my opinion. Definitely several that I would like to visit in the coming weeks. Lots of quality pictures are included, as well as stimulating write ups for each entry. If this is a hit, which I’m sure it will be, there is definitely scope for a ‘fifty more’ down the line.I will be recommending this to my fellow parishioners and my family.

I’m so pleased to have this beautiful book
I live in Rye, and was delighted to see that our beautiful parish church St Anthony of Padua is included in this book. But more than that, I am delighted this book has been produced. Not only is it a wonderful guide to have with you when travelling around England and Wales it is actually life enhancing to have such a guide. At a time when Christianity and especially Catholicism is in eclipse in Western Europe, it is encouraging to celebrate this heritage, and to feel this celebration is legitimate. Our Churches are indeed a glimpse of heaven.

Poorly presented obvious choices
This book is so poorly put together. The choice of churches lacks imagination, knowledge and any real insight. Any catholic is aware of the London churches selected and some real gems have been left out. Two churches for example are St Aiden’s East Acton with a full height Graham Sutherland painting and Goring on Sea English Martyrs with a copied ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. A map with the locations would have been useful.
