BepuzzledKey Hanayama Metal Brainteaser Puzzle Mensa Rated Level 1, for Ages 12 and Up

Fun piece and surprisingly tricky for most. Well made and heavy, giving it a good feel without dropping when trying to solve!

This is one of two Hanayama puzzles I bought recently. Both of them are VERY sturdy polished metal construction. They operate very smoothly, look classy, and can easily be solved in seconds "behind the back" once you know the trick. But they both require you to "know the trick" to solving them, and the solution is counter-intuative, so they'll keep guests busy trying to figure them out, and very satisfied with themselves after they work it out. They're the perfect puzzles to keep on the coffee table for guests to play with, with no change of even a rough strong kid breaking them. Hanayama makes quite a few other puzzles, but these looked like the ones that were the "most challenging but quickly solvable" of the bunch. You can't get any simpler than a two-piece puzzle, and these pull it off well.

Y easyCool puzzle. Good conversation piece. One draw back pretty ease to figure out. But friend enjoy the fun in it.

I have 2 nephews so I bought 2 different versions of the Level 1 puzzles by this company. My nephews are 11 and 8. As soon as they opened these, they had them out of the boxes and were trying to figure them out. Mind you, they were in the middle of opening a stack of Christmas gifts, but they still didn't hesitate to rip into them!Everyone wanted in on trying their hand with them. The ages ranged from 72 year old grandparents, 40ish aunts and uncles, 20ish cousins, down to the actual ages of the gift recipients. In other words, they seem to be a crowd pleaser regardless of the age of the crowd.I wasn't sure about what level to buy when I was looking at the complexity. I didn't want it to be too easy so that it didn't require any effort (less fun) but I also didn't want it to be too hard (discouraging). I probably should have bought level 2 for each of them to start. The trout puzzle took the 8 year old less than 2 minutes to take apart and put back together. The diamond Level 1 was a little more difficult, but still took less than 5 minutes. For some it was more like 8-10 minutes.I highly recommend these puzzles! Not only are they fun, they are also well made. They are a really nice gift that is affordable.

Harder than beginner but doable if you play with it long enough. This piece is beautiful and of good quality and has a nice weight to it.

Great quality. First level is pretty easy. Got it quick. But still fun! Especially watching people try it for the first time.

This is a very nice puzzle, with all the usual "Hanayama characteristics": 1) it's unique, unlike any other puzzle, 2) it's superb quality, 3) it's visually appealing, and 4) it's really a joy to solve. (And the guy who designed this is obviously a genius!)
