Great Home Automation Thermostat
Easy to install and set up via the app. I love that I am able to control the thermostat and set programming based on our lifestyle and preferences. Love the small size and the easy to use touch screen functions.

Make sure you connect right!
We love this new thermostat. Took a bit to set up...ended up with a freezing cold house the 1st morning because it wasn't hooked up right. The AC was blowing instead of the heat! It was awful. Even the animals were crowding for warmth!

Seamless.
It was between this and the Ecobee thermostat. Ultimately went with the Nest from Google. I loved the mirror finish to the display. Easy to install if you can read and follow directions. Lol. No need for a pro install. With or without the trim plate, this is a great looking thermostat. I didn’t think it would get as much attention when guests come to my condo. I really bought it for me, but it ends up being a talking point when people come over. Plays seamlessly with Apple Home thanks to Matter (a seriously great software initiative). No need for a C-wire for most HVAC units. Essentially plug-and-play. You can change the settings of the unit from your smart device or with Siri/Google Assistant/Alexa. It’s a great buy. Considering buying the 5th gen learning Nest when it’s available. This unit doesn’t have the turn dial like it does on the learning Nest, but the capacitive controls are just as dope! Even has a built in proximity sensor that allows it to wake up on approach to a pretty neat effect (nice stuff!) Display is very high res and shows brilliantly through the mirror finish. Very nice experience and package. Would definitely recommend.

Beyond Frustrated - save yourself some grief
If you’re thinking in buying Nest Gen 1 thermostat, do your homework. Read all the frustrations. This thermostat is installed at our second home. This seemed like a perfect solution for saving money while we were away and having pleasant temps when we arrive Turns out, not such a good idea. I have spent numerous hours of frustration trying to make this thing work.I consider myself a fairly intelligent person who understands technology. However, I have been working with this thermostat for over a month and this gadget is just about to push me over the edge.So here’s my experience….I had the thermostat professionally installed and it still took the tech 3 hrs to help me get it set up and working correctly. It’s so hard to get clear instructions since all models are included. You have to filter through so much to find an answer to a simple question. And some I never found the answer to; it was just trial and error.First of all, why on earth do you have to set it up in the nest app just to be redirected to the Google Home app? (Nothing is done in the nest app) Feel my frustration? It only get worse.I finally had it working and sort of understand the ‘smart’ part but do not like it overriding my choices. I was just about ready for a sigh of relief but there’s a different problem today.According to atomic clock indoor temp is 64 but the nest thermostat display shows indoor temp 87. This means when the temps drop below freezing tonight the unit will not come on.According to information I found, the thermostat needs to be reset. And, guess what…. This can only be done at the thermostat, not through the app. Therein lies today’s problem. Since the thermostat is installed at our second home I had to drop everything and drive 3 hrs to do this.Restart didn’t work and I can’t risk unit not coming on with freezing temps. So now (on a Sunday) I’m waiting for an electrician to re-install our previous thermostat. In addition to initial purchase I have spent $250 and who knows what electrician will charge for weekend call.Beyond frustrated.Save yourself some grief.

Setup was a little tricky becuase I have a heat pump.
I purchased this device for a rental property so that I can manage the utility costs since we paid the electric. A fellow investor recommended NEST so I decided to try. For my home I use another device. You can read my review for that product.I was counting on this to be a quick setup. It is important for you to know if your home has a heat pump. Ours did but I did not know this until I went to the circuit box outside and it had 2 sets of fuses.Regarding the nest setup the only issue I had was I kept getting code. E294 no power. I read through online google search and they suggested to reset the device. I am new to Google Home so I had to download the app. I kept getting the error. Another suggestion was to make sure the C wire was inserted. So I made the mistake of putting those label wires too close to the edge. Dont do that.Once I pushed the connections into the hole they locked in securely.PROS: I like how the temperature can turn off while you are away. I also like how you can set the temperature while away from home and it tells you how long it will take to cool the home.I like the cost.CONS: If you are not use to Google apps there might be a little hookup issue. Live tech support was not available.Summary, I would buy this again now that I am setup on Google. I think you really get the benefit if you are using all Google devices. But right now I am not comfortable switching everything over (doorbells, lights, cameras, etc)
