It's a beautiful thing
Living in Oregon a cherry pitter is a must. I borrowed my neighbor's before purchasing this one and it worked fine, but was obviously made of some zinc compound and was not what I would classify as a quality tool. The Dalla Piazza Lustro cherry pitter works well and has a shiny slick finish (stainless steel, maybe) and it is very ergonomic. What a joy! Even after paying about 75% extra for shipping (yeah, I messed up my >$25 order), the tool I got was a couple of dollars less expensive than the inferior ones readily available at local kitchen shops.

Functions great, looks great
This cherry pitter ended a long quest of mine to find the nicest cherry pinner since I only wanted to buy one. It was this item or the oxo good grips cherry pitter. I settled on this item for it's all metal construction and esthetic appeal. Although the oxo is diswasher safe, I suspect after several years of use I bet the rubbery handles won't look so great. What gives this 4/5 stars is that the striking action of the pitter is slightly off center and gently touches the ring of the pitter. This was the only issue holding this item back from 5 stars.

Just like the old Pampered Chef one!
This thing worked like a charm, I purchased 18ibs of cherries from a locale farmer's market and this thing didn't fail me at all, I was worried about it when I was reading the reviews about the pitter falling apart while pushing the pits out but I had no problem pitting all 18ibs. This is the closest I could find to the discontinued Pampered Chef style and works exactly the same.

A fabulous tool for parents of young children when those children love cherries.
I bought this as a gift for my son whose 2-year-old daughter loves cherries. He had requested it to make his life easier. I have since bought one of my own. He loves the one I got him. I did discover, however, that OXY makes a similar "tool" that is more than adequate for my needs and is considerably less expensive than this one.

poor quality
I was only able to use this tool once before it fell apart into pieces. At first I thought it was supposed to do that for cleaning, but we have been unable to put it back together again.

Cherry pitter
Loved this product. Don't use it often but it is great to be able to add pitted cherries to a homemade fruit salad. Bought 3 more to give to my daughter and daughter-in-laws. They love them too.

So far so good!
Perhaps I haven't used mine enough yet for it to fall apart (as others have mentioned), but so far I haven't had any problems. I've had this item for 2 years, but have only used it on occasion, and it removes the cherry pits nicely as advertised. I will give an update if I experience the same problem as others, but for now - 5 stars!

Fell Apart!
Nice looking pitter, heavy chrome or steel, nice finish. Seemed to work well at first, although I did think the hole was actually too small for about 1/2 of the cherry pits that I had to extract. Then, after a few uses, the stem (the thin piece that actually pushes the pit) fell out! I could only keep using it if, after each pit extraction, I re-inserted the stem into its hole. Hardly an efficient way to pit cherries, especially considering the cherry pitter is supposed to be saving me time. I would recommend finding one where the stem is more securely connected to the body of the piiter. I'll be returning this one.
