Great, Inexpensive Coffee Storage
I looked for quite a while at coffee storage options before settling on the Tightvac. My requirements were few: hold one pound of coffee (whole or ground), seal securely to keep out air and light, and be relatively inexpensive. Most products failed the price test. I was surprised just how much some of the ceramic containers with rubber gaskets cost. When I found the Tightvac I was all set to buy it until I read some negative reviews saying it fails to work as advertised, and a better purchase would be Planetary Design's Airscape canister. If you've run across these reviews, as well, here's the deal. The Airscape canister enables you to pump air out of the canister. As the volume of coffee goes down, the Airscape is presumably superior to the Tightvac because the pump action allows you to pump as much air out as you can, maintaining a consistent vacuum seal. The Tightvac, on the other hand, works by displacing a fixed amount of air from the canister. The Tightvac top "nests" inside the canister, and as you push the top down, you press a valve to let the displaced air escape. With the Tightvac, as the volume of coffee goes down, the amount of air you can remove from the canister stays the same.I didn't think the difference in design between the two was worth the difference in cost ($15 for the Tightvac and $25 for the Airscape). I have two Tightvacs that I've had now for several months, and I'm very pleased. They're lightweight, easy to clean, and attractive. They are much more convenient than keeping my coffee in the bag, and they help keep my coffee fresh. I highly recommend them.

Great for coffee.....plus a great tip!
I bought this container to keep my whole bean coffee in.The lid has a button (shown, in black, in the picture) that you press to take the lid off or to put the lid on. Pushing in the button allows air to escape (when putting the lid on) or enter (when taking the lid off). This system makes the container air-tight and keeps your coffee fresh. In fact, if you do not press the button, and hold a full container just by the lid (not supporting the bottom at all), the lid will only move about 1/2 an inch, proving that it is sealed. If you press the button, the container and the lid will separate, further proving its air-tightness (is that a word?).This container holds about a pound of coffee beans, perhaps more if your beans are of a more dense variety.TIP: when putting the lid on, set the container on the counter and then put on the lid. When you hold the container in your hands and place the lid on, the lid sometimes gets askew and doesn't slide down on to the container easily.

We love this, but it broke easily
I gave this to my husband as one of his Christmas gifts, since he had recently gone from coffee drinker, to coffee connoisseur and needed the gear to go with it.This works very well to keep a few days worth of fresh ground coffee (it holds at least a 1lb bag worth, we just don't grind that much at a time) tasting good and we were VERY pleased with it aesthetically and functionally. Only issue came a few months after purchase when the lid spontaneously cracked making it unable to seal. We ordered a replacement lid from the manufacturer, but were nonetheless disappointed at the quality of the lid. My husband, being the resourceful man he is, found other reviews online about this product also saying that the lid cracked for other customers. It is a nice product when it's working properly, but if I were to buy another one for someone, I would buy a different brand due to the cracking/cheaply made lid.

Worth getting!
I really do like this, I would give it a 4.5, only because sometimes the lid does give a little before if you happen to pick it up by the top. It also holds more than a single pound of ground coffee. It's probably more like 1.25/1.33lb I don't think 1.5lb would fit in there. I like the vacuum seal on it. I also haven't noticed any contamination from other fridge smell or it not smelling fresh!

A Very Good Coffee Storage Container
What can I say, it works perfectly, and is gratifying when I hear the "swish" when it vacuums closed. After about two years use I mishandled it and cracked the lid on the side. Instead of getting another, wife used package sealing tape over the crack and it still works perfectly.

Lovely -- but know how it works...
The Tightvac is one of the best coffee containers I've ever used, but the part of its name that counts is the "Tight," not the "Vac." It can't be aspirated or pumped out to provide a true low-pressure (low-oxidation) environment. But it does feature a pressure release that gives an EXTREMELY tight seal, which prevents exchange of air between inside and outside, and also means that coffee won't spill if the canister tips. The ultra-high-end coffee connoisseur may prefer a true vacuum container, but for the thoughtful everyday coffee drinker, the Tightvac is easily worth the money.

Replace your tupperware people.
Used to keep our coffee beans in tupperware. Problem was they were clear (light not good for the beans). Purchased two of these, a black one for reg and the green for decaf. Both work just fine. Yes the "vacuum" is a misnomer, but this does push some air out when you close it. For the price I figured "why not?".

Excellent vacuum container.
What a nifty gadget. I put my brown sugar in the container and haven't had any problems. The sugar comes out soft with absolutely no hard areas.
