OTC4470 Butane-Powered Flameless Micro Torch

I love the frameless torch because I often see burn marks on wires when flame torches are used. This is easy on the hand to hold for the length of time it takes to shrink heat shrink on connectors. I do not like the design for the shield, it does not stay attached to the screw it is designed to slide onto and it is easy to knock it off. Frustrating at times but overall it really is a great tool.

I will no longer consider OTC a premium brand of tools.I'll use this for heat shrink tubing and hope my car buddies don't catch me with it, or worse, find out how much I paid for it.

I purchased this as an in the field replacement to a heatgun to use while I do iPhone repairs ( the heat allows for flex cables and touch id sensors to be removed easily.) It is super easy to use and works like a charm. I can use this in a Starbucks while doing a repair on site for a client and it draws no attention to the other patrons in the area. My only complaint is that I wish it would work with BIC lighters versus the generic squared off lighters, as the BIC lighters are easier to find at gas stations and grocery stores in my area, a more and more are getting away from the cheap generic ones.

I haven't used it yet however appearance wise it looks cheap that really suprised me from OTC. Maybe it will suprise me I sure hope so. Used it twice and it will not heat up enough to melt the soder . Nor would it cause shrink tubing to shrink.

I bought this flameless Micro torch with the idea that I would be able to solder some 20 gauge wires together in butt splice connector. The connector already had the solder and flux in place and all I needed to do was simply heat and melt the solder. Much to my disappointment, I was not able to melt the solder. I tried both with and without the heat shield, yet was never successful.This may be a good choice for smaller jobs (like RC cars or small electronics) but I'm really not sure.The other use for this torch might be for lower heat applications such as shrink tubing or the like.The overall ergonomics and handling of the torch was ok, but in the end I will be returning this torch because it simply does not do the job I wanted.

Kinda flimsy and cheaply made. Not what I expected from OTC. Also takes awhile to heat. Doesn't shrink shrinkable connectors very well

Shipping was quick. Item was packaged well. After filling el cheapo removable lighter 'reservoir' with butane and installing as indicated in instructions, item failed to work 100% of the time. this item is constructed very cheaply. I inspected for spark, and item would send spark 3 out of 5 times. item would never release butane ensuring it would never light. I tried different methods to make it work but nothing would get both the spark and the butane. I would avoid.

I didn't read the reviews very closely before ordering this. Wish I had. Unit came and is pretty cheaply put together. Butane is held in what is basically a lighter without the igniter. Wouldn't work out of the box. Could not get it to ignite at all. Ended up returning it to Amazon for a refund and bought another product that works great.
