MUST BUY--add it to your registry!
Super easy to take in and out of my bra! I comfortably "catch" about an ounce, maybe 1.5 oz, just from let down and haven't had an issue with spilling. Do be careful when setting it down onto a table or nightstand since the hard plastic piece is round and can wobble -- spilled milk = tears, especially early on when you're working up to a good milk supply and EVERY drop counts. Overall, this is very comfortable, super easy to clean, and does what it's intended!Note: I bought this after about a month of breastfeeding and did not use to help "protect" my nipples. I do know that when I've dozed off with it on (side-lying breastfeeding -- don't worry, husband was supervising so I didn't roll onto baby!), my nipple had a whole lot of moisture from the milk and the body heat. Take that however you will if you're seeking this to help with your nipple pain in the beginning. With that said -- breastfeeding DOES get better with time! Seek help from a lactation consultant and stay positive. We had to supplement with formula in the beginning because of our struggles, but baby and I eventually got the hang of it. Remember that you're BOTH learning. Products like this definitely help with the whole process :-)

Milk saver!
I love that this is only a 2 part system, easy to put together and take apart to wash. Super helpful in collecting milk when unable to pump or on breast not feeding with.

Don’t bend over
These work well for catching your milk. They do make my boobs look funny shaped, very noticeable as the cup part is firm so I only wear them at home. These are not breast pumps, there is no suction to your nipple so they will not express your milk, just catch what leaks out. If I forget I have them on & bend over then there goes all my milk as there are little air vents on the top. Not uncomfortable nor comfortable. These are nice to have on the opposite breast while nursing as sometimes I will let down on both at the same time. I just don’t use them as often as I thought I would. When I do wear them for an hour or so I will collect about an ounce combined. They’re easy to wash right along with my bottles and pumping supplies.

Works ok, design needs some work.
I was excited to try these out for some hands free pumping. But these left a lot to be desired. I get about 25% less when I use them bs the regular spectra pump. There are so many design flaws. There are several parts that need to be put together each time and they have to be laid bed up just so, but there is no groove or indicator to know if you have it lined up properly, just trial and error. The valves are on top, which makes it really hard to tell if your nipple is lined up right. It also makes it hard to see if and how much you are getting out. There is no indicator like on the bottles so even if you can see, you can’t estimate how many ounces you’ve pumped. So many times I have turned it on and gotten no suction. I take it apart and put it back together and then it starts working again. I have no idea if it’s because things aren’t lined up properly or if I just have a bad seal. Even once I’ve got it going well, I have to sit just so or the cups get out of position and I lose suction and leak. I have had some success and it’s nice to be able to have my hands free. But there are lots of drawbacks.

Gamechanger, lets your nipples heal
These are hard shells with a flexible membrane that fit comfortably over the nipples and are held in place by your bra. They protect sensitive nipples from contact with clothing, squirming babies, or aggressive huggers while allowing air to circulate around the nipple and promote healing. They passively collect rather than absorb leaked milk. The membranes detach and reattach for easy cleaning. Depending on your anatomy, the nipple may touch the shell but the pressure is very minimal and they don't adhere to your skin. They are compatible with lanolin or other nipple creams. They are nearly perfect. I am breastfeeding my third child and wish I had found these sooner. My previous treatment for sore cracking nipples was absorbent pads and lanolin cream. The main problem with that is the leaked milk would dry up and form kind of a glue, so detaching the pad usually resulted in tearing off the top layer of nipple! Ouch! Healing took forever, and breastfeeding was so discouraging. I was going to continue using the pads at night because I couldn't imagine sleeping in these hard shells. However, my nipples couldn't take anymore abuse and I've now been wearing these shells around the clock. It's not the most comfortable for sleep but also not terrible. Be advised, there is a drain hole in the top of the shell. If you are standing upright, chances of leaking are slim... you'd have to leak a lot of milk. Lying down is another story entirely. Like I said, nearly perfect. But still a gamechanger and much better solution than anything else I've found.

Simple useful passive milk catcher!
Why didn't I have this for my first child?? I invented a whole contraption to catch the letdown and any milk that leaked when I was nursing my first child, thinking I was pretty inventive. I was aware of the hakaa at the time, but it seemed too large/cumbersome since I didn't actually need it for the pumping part (I already had a spectra s2 and a hand-pump). With my second child, I found that these shells are perfect for my needs: a hands-free/spill-proof way to catch the extra milk that leaks from the other side while nursing. I simply tuck it in my nursing bra/tank before I nurse and then pour the milk into a regular container to store. Since I only use one at a time, it's pretty easy to rinse/wash one and then use the other for the next nursing session. I've been able to collect up to 1.5oz per session, so it's been great!Note: I have accidentally spilled the collected milk in the shell at least twice because I didn't check that I'd folded the silicone ring lip part completely over the plastic shell edge. The milk spilled as I pulled the shell out (otherwise it was kept in by the pressure of me wearing the shell against the tank/bra). So... Make sure the seals are good. Otherwise, it feels worse than the milk slowly dripping since it's a massive sudden spill.
