Good Little Player
This turned out to be a very good "walkman". The size of the unit is not much larger than a cassette. The quality is comparable to something that Sony would have put out in the 90s for about the same price. The tape mechanism is very solid. I used FF, RW, Play, and Stop with no issues and all functioned confidently. The sound quality with a new cassette was near CD quality. The playback was smooth and at the proper speed. It sounded very good! I do not plan to use the record function, though other reviewers have commented on this feature. The ability to record is also an unusual capability for this type of player. The AM reception is excellent. The AM tuner seems to use a wide bandwidth which means that as the dial is scanned, the stations that are pulled in will have great fidelity. The FM tuner did not seem as sensitive as I would have liked, but the reception was acceptable. This tape radio/Tape player is also unique for one of its size in that it has a built in speaker and telescoping antenna. The speaker is very convenient and it also sounded excellent listening to an AM talk show. The lower frequencies where reproduced better than I would have expected; not tinny at all.I also tested the headphone output with a full size pair of over the ear headphone (Koss UR20) and there was plenty of power for them while playing a tape. Impressive for such a small unit.I have dozens of portable tape players going back to the mid 1980s to compare this to. Maybe I am just a fan of these in general, but I think this one is very good and well worth the price.

Punch for Buck!
Amazing product at this price point! For those of us who remember the era of the cheap portable cassette deck, there have been some modern improvements to the budget models out there. Normal bias recording, with surprisingly little hiss for a device that does not seem to have any DNR or other noise reduction feature listed. Pretty smooth playback. Buttons seem sturdy enough if you are familiar with old analog tech. Having the optional 1/8" mic input is a plus, but have not used it yet and do not know if it is line level or normalized (guessing line level as all the recording I've done plays back at the same db). The FF and RW are speedy for this price range. Autostop only works on playback/record, not FF and RW.Oh my gawd the radio!! The tuner and volume are tight and touchy, but holy heck! This may be the best portable radio at this price point even excluding the cassette features! Super clean and powerful reception. Exceeds expectations all the way.The internal speaker is also pretty well up to modern specs. Cheap cone... Nice magnet. A lot cleaner than I expected, and quite a bit louder. This little thing (it is quite compact too!) also runs on two AA batteries or a wall wart. I've been using the unit every day for two weeks on generic batteries and it is still ticking strong. Just as well, I put it through the paces the first couple days and left it on all night and used the record function labouriously. I mean it... still running at optimum capacity right now. Almost every other unit I've had is a gass-guzzler compared to this one.Jaras really makes a good product and wants to insure customer satisfaction. They warentee their product, and Amazon backs them up. Also, as far as I can see, these are made in America. If not, Jaras is an American company or has an arm here in the USA and makes a quality product for the price. Thanks Jaras for keeping these products alive and seeking to improve where you can, and make it so folks on a budget can afford it!!

a great walkman for the price! read my review for details
the jaras jj-2016 is one of the best cheap walkmen that are still around. it is very hard to find a reliable walkman now a days with good tape speeds that are reliable. so let me tell you the pros and cons of this device. pros:#1) it has great sound quality=this walkman plays in stereo and sounds pretty good it does have a bit of a buzz/humm in the back round but it really only shows at high volumes remember this is a pretty cheap devices not going to sound like a sony d6c.#2) the speaker is pretty good=the speaker on some portables sounds like a heavy smoker is choking on a kazoo. the one on here is good unless you put it to max. #3) the radio is great= great reception and clarity you also can record from the radio on to a tape. #4)(Disclaimer you will need a accessory for this it does not come in the box) it has a ac power lead in if i recall correctly its 4.5 volts. this feature is not listed on the box kinda weird. now for the cons. #1)the door and buttons feel cheap= this device is pretty sturdy so it surprised me when opened the cassette door it felt very light and cheapy the buttons also are a bit on the Cheapside you don't want to slam the door or push a button to hard on this machine.#2) the onboard mike is pretty much s***= the on board mic is low and tiny and pretty much will only record someone speaking if its held up to their face luckily there is a mic input, if your going to use this for any type of recording buy an external mic. #3) there is no anti rolling= don't even think about taking this for a run! the smallest inversions and bump cause slight distortions, medium bumps and inversions make it sound like your walkman is having a stroke. and big bumps cause heart momentary heart failure and skips. slow walking is key to this walk man. #4) it does not have a belt clip= for a device thats big and hefty it should have a belt clip skinny jeans wears beware. #5)it can chew tapes= last but defiantly not least this walkman can chew tapes if your not careful. here is how to be careful A) keep the tape head and pinch roller clean-from time to time clean it with a q tip and rubbing alcohol or you can buy a tape cleaner which ever you like. B) don't press to hard on the play button- the button are a bit delicate, press to hard and risk your tape. And that concludes my review of the jars jj-2016 portable cassette player i will keep this review updated and have a great day.
