JSA - Joint Security Area (Special Edition) [Blu-ray]

The movie itself is engrossing in its depiction of military and civil tensions between the North and South, partially at the controversial demilitarized zone separating the two countries. Furthermore, I respect the filmmakers for not only avoiding the easy ridiculing that could’ve been done towards the North, but also humanizing them by adding several scenes showing that in the end, politics aside, we’re all apart of the same species.In regards to the actual blu-ray, the transfer for this film was beautifully done. Furthermore, the essay inside provides an informative and thought-provoking analysis of the film’s handling of certain controversial subject matters. Overall a great package from Arrow Video and one that I’ll be recommending to anyone interested in boutique physical media

I may have purchased it to see actor Joo Won in a small part that was hard for me to actually find in the movie but ended up loving the movie. All of the actors did an amazing job and I was glued to the tv for the whole movie. I am very happy to have this in my collection. It was very hard for me to find my copy, so I purchased mine after looking for a long time. If you like these types of movies, then you might like this one. THERE'S A DRAMA FOR THAT

Really well-written story and plot. Acting is great too (except for the European actors, probably non-actors) and the directing very nicely stylized. Produced in 2000, it's even more timely today. Watch it!

An amazing movie and the Korean actors did a great job. I was stationed at the DMZ and made several visits to Panmunjom though it didn't look like it does today. As for the movie, highly recommend.

Best part of the movie is Lee Young Ae.

Awesome, very powerful. Starting to like Korean movies more and more instead of the immoral crap coming out of Hollywood.

This is a strong movie about politics goes wrong, friendship that is strong and how war is bad.

Actually enjoyed this more than all his other films, Oldboy included. Very gripping, and a human story that stays with you after seeing it. 5/5.

Prima della celebratissima Trilogia della Vendetta il Maestro Park Chan Wook ha filmato questo autentico cult ad elevato budget che non tradisce le aspettative. In nuce vi sono tutti i tópoi del regista poi portati all’estremo nei film successivi. Sciaguratamente non mi risulta esistente una versione italiana, ma non fatevi intimorire e guardate il film in lingua originale con sottotitoli in inglese. Starete incollati senza tregua all’intreccio fantapolitico che poi non è affatto fanta e che, ancorchè ora i tempi e i rapporti tra le due Coree siano cambiati, fa molto riflettere sulla stupidità delle barriere tra gli uomini, di fronte all’umanità e debolezza di quegli stessi uomini. La JSA e la guerra fredda tra le due Coree è solo un esempio riproducibile altrove in ogni tempo. A suo modo un kolossal di nicchia, brutale e commovente, che tutti dovrebbero prima o poi vedere e commentare. Grande Park e bravi come sempre i suoi attori prediletti, alcuni dei quali veri e propri totem del cinema coreano del periodo.
