Heated 5-quart pet bowl seems to work ok
I am using this for my chickens, first inside the coop then outside. They keep it too dirty and it’s difficult to unplug to take outside to clean it out, then refill it. Chickens don’t eat or drink after starting to roost for the night anyway so they don’t need it in there. Our weather has been unusually warm for November & Dec with only a few nights at or below freezing but it seems to work ok. It will dry up the bowl though so you do need to watch it. Another reason to have it outside. Much easier to refill that way. We have a cold front coming in and temps will be dropping so it’s soon going to be tested. I’ll update if it doesn’t perform very well.

No more frozen water so far for dog and the wild birds!
Great not only for our dog, but the wild birds love stealing a drink from it too. This 5-quart heated bowl hold enough water for a medium dog for a couple of days. We've only had temps as low as single digits so far, but have had no ice in the bowl so far. I love the large size of the bowl, but I'd like to have had a longer cord, like an 8 ft. one, since I had to use an extension cord with it to reach my outdoor outlet. I should have gotten one of these last year for winter and save myself from constantly replacing frozen water in her bowl. I wanted to add that since I originally posted my feedback, we dropped below -30 degrees at night for multiple days shortly after posting my above feedback and the water never froze! A few days ago we just had below freezing nights after a run of 40+ degree nights where I had unplugged the bowl, but forgot until I looked out the next morning and saw the water had froze solid, I plugged it in and within 30 minutes the water was partly melted. So far the bowl hasn't cracked from the temperatures like some other plastic bowls do. I highly recommend the Allied Plastic Heated Pet Bowl, 5-Quart for your pets water needs. Now if there was a way to keep the birds from using it as a bath. I posted a photo of the bowl being used outdoors - my cat uses it too when outside. With winter fairly over, I'm still going to use the bowl, but unplugged until it drops below freezing again.

Works Great!
I've owned this pet bowl for a month now and so far am very satisfied. We have had many nights below freezing and a few in the teens. It has not frozen at all and even melts snow as soon as it hits the bowl. No complaints at all. Also you can remove the heating element and make it a regular water bowl year round. The 5 quart size is plenty of water for my two large dogs. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs fresh water for pets especially in the winter. The price is very reasonable too.

Good, reliable water dish.
This bowl has been great. We have had sub zero weather- under 0°F for days on end and it has not frozen, not even a thin layer of ice, all winter. It is in a protected area in my chicken coop, but other buckets have frozen there in the past. I have 12 birds and it is plenty of water for them. It is much easier to clean and fill than the standard chicken waterers. It does get dirty easier than a closed waterer, but that problem is overcome by the ease of cleaning.

Works well
Got this to keep water for the chickens during the winter. It never froze even when we had very cold spells here in NH. I got two of these, one for outdoors and one to go in the coop. My chickens free range the yard so they had plenty of water available all winter. they didnt have much space to "free range" in the winter because we had a lot of snow this year but these bowls work well and are good quality

Already ruined by harmless dog
Our (small) dog flipped this over and then chewed the heating element, so it no longer works. It didn't seem to work that well before either. I am very disappointed that we bought what I thought would be a nice heated bowl and our small dog who has destroyed nothing else ruined it so quickly. We hardly got any use out of it. Update: We've kept this plugged in outside, and it works sporadically. Sometimes it's only ice in the bowl and then other days I will look out and there will be liquid water... especially on days when we get a lot of snow, so maybe the snow insulates it and helps it to work better. I don't know, but this does not reliably keep our dog's water drinkable. Luckily, she's not outside for long periods of time so it doesn't matter that much for us. Disappointing purchase though. Wish it worked better.

So far so good...
We got this for our 2 very active outdoor labs. We've had it about 2 mos now. When temps drop, we were putting them in our outdoor building that is heated at night, but my husband hated doing that b/c they always chewed up something of his. So we got this. So far it's worked and they haven't messed with the cord. I don't really think the coil around the cord would keep them from chewing into the actual cord though. And if they got bored enough, we agreed that they would definitely try to eat the bowl too. Make sure where you're going to put this is flat though, or be prepared to build something non-flammable to level it out. The kennel floor isn't quite level, and it tilted so far it wouldn't hold much water (a problem if you have multiple dogs, large dogs or just dogs that drink alot) b/c the element would burn out. We had some slate stepping stones that had come apart in slivers and were pretty flat, so we used those to level it out, and then framed the bowl with regular bricks to keep them from tipping it. He also drilled 2 holes in the side of outer rim and used a ZipTie to lash it to the fence so they couldn't pull the bowl away from the corner.

Keeps water unfrozen
So far so good with this large, electric water bowl for keeping water unfrozen for chickens in a mobile coop. Bowl is connected to a long extension cord to our barn. Does not make water hot, just keeps it from freezing. If you are sick of breaking plastic waterers due to ice, try this bowl. I also added a few ping pong balls to keep the surface of the water unfrozen due to motion from breezes.
