First time Plextor buyer. I looked at brands like LG and Asus, but I settled on Plextor and it is a great drive. First thing I noticed is it's very quiet. I just built my first computer, and I needed a CD Drive. Since I do a lot of dvd burning. The software I use to burn, needs to cycle the tray after burning to verify the burn. This drive does exactly that. I have no problems with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, or any issues with reading or writing discs. I did see reviews that said NOT to use the disk for the software that ships with this drive, so I didn't. I use BurnAware Free anyway its a better alternative. I highly recommend this drive for PC builders that still need an optical drive.

Was packaged very well, arrived in perfect shape. The drive uses the standard SATA connections, just as easy to install as any other 5.25" device. Came with some software (ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP, & PlexTools) & 5 DVD-Rs, haven't needed to use either yet but they seem fine. I'm not expecting the DVD-Rs to be of the highest quality, but they're a nice bonus and should do the job well enough. If you're planning to put this in your personal computer, definitely spring for the retail version; it's worth the extra few bucks.

I bought a new desktop computer, but it only has a slimline tray burner drive, and is not motorized. It will automatically eject, but you have to manually close it. I do a lot of dvd burning. I installed it in a Vantec USB3.0 external enclosure (purchased here on Amazon), and have no problems with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, or any issues with reading or writing discs. If needed, I would purchas this drive again.

It was around three minutes between the time I opened the computer case to the start of burning the first disc. The driver was installed automatically. So far, no problems reading or writing CDs and DVDs. I hope it lasts as long as my previous burner (a different brand), which lasted about eleven years. At the time of this writing, I've had the drive five weeks and I've burned about ten discs.

Very Dissappointed. The DVD ROM worked for about 6 monthes, then there is some thing looks like a rubber sealing belt dropped inside of the unit and jamming the door.

shame lightscribe discs are disappearing and so expensive

I wish I had discovered this drive years ago. It has ended my infuriating experiences with flimsy external CD/DVD drives connected via USB to my laptop. The drive is solidly built and looks fine sitting on my desktop. The bundled software works well, based on my experience. The drive was instantly recognized by Windows 11 and has not missed a beat since. What a change!! In my opinion, this is the recommended way to add CD/DVD capability to a modern laptop. I am sure it would work well in a desktop PC also. This has been a transformative purchase for me. Highly recommended!!
